Personally, I sold the signet ring as I viewed it as a stand-in for a cash reward for completing this quest.
But it's also thematic as the player would pick a quick buck over the promise of good luck. Which is similar to one letter you can find where it talks about a tribal mask with supposed invaluable properties traded in for mundane everyday items.
I haven't found any quest where the signet ring could have been useful.
Is there one?
It won't save when you go for an ending so you can unlock either one. It won't let you throw away quest items, and it very purposefully makes sure you can always come back to get them later. None of the quests, even the ones that seem urgent, have any kind of time limit associated with them.
I'm very certain the signet ring is just a joke. A ring that supposedly brings good luck, given to me by a dude who had it when he was in for absolutely horrid luck.
He can starve to death if you leave him there for too long
like the package for the dock worker in little marrow can spoil and the dock worker nto paying you for it.
