Why?

The President of Unity had publicly insulted developers using his software that refuse to over-monetize their games. As a result, a lot of people are jumping ship to Godot and Unreal, polar opposites of the spectrum. In reality, though, Unity is unaffected. The only people truly jumping ship are people who don't program in the first place, or people who have decided that learning another engine is better than sticking around. Developers that know how to use it will. It's free, has the most documentation, and has innate compatibility with a lot of the most common languages out there. Most beginners use it because it's so open ended and modular. Godot is the only real competitor in the free engine market, but Godot's David to Unity's Goliath. There's little documentation or tutoring online, there's only a handful of big hit indie games coming out made on Godot, and despite being open source there are not that many high quality modules for the engine.

TL;DR: Unity's President is an Ass and some people are mad about it.

So more stupid social media drama with people getting worked up about stupid statements. And in a misguided attempt to take the moral highground they just flail around.

It's a bit more than *just* social media drama, unfortunately - Unity is a great engine right now, and any games currently using it have little to worry about. But the president is not just some talking head, he's the guy making decisions for the company. Decisions like "Merging with IronSource, a company well known primarily for distributing malware alongside the games downloaded using their tools, and is currently doing research on how to fill VR with ads".

...As of the current moment, that's just 'concerning', and doesn't actually impact Unity. But it's not a good sign for the direction things might go in the future.
