oops.. you might want to report that to the dev...
It says the pausing was removed from multiplayer, so I'm thinking it was only removed from single player by accident. Hopefully the switch to Steamworks wasn't the only support the game is getting because we need more patches to fix what the update broke.
That's actually what makes it so weird. You can still bring up the menu and queue up actions in single player, but there's a square block with menu options blocking your screen. The pause key would pause the game with only the word pause in the middle of your screen, so you'd still have full view of the battlefield. Basically, there was the menu screen and then there was the pause screen. Both screens effectively paused the game, but the pause screen didn't block your view with a menu box. The pause screen was nuked from the game, and it makes no sense since the patch notes state it was only supposed to be multiplayer.
The workaround is to just use the menu screen (F10 or Pause/Break) to pause the game and queue up your commands by either clicking where you want the units to go or pressing the keybind for their ability. It isn't pretty since you have the menu box in the middle of your screen, but it's as close as you can get to playing it how you could before they removed the pause screen.
I love the game, but if the pause gameplay is important to you I say go for the refund. I mean, it's a pretty important feature for the single player that was there until they migrated over from GFWL to Steam, and their attempt to fix the issue was to just bind the key that opens the menu (F10) to the key that used to open the pause screen.
Otherwise, this really sucks.
I really hope they fix this with another patch. Otherwise this game becomes unplayable for me...
