Live for windows removal patch also "removed" my saved campaign
As the title says, after updating to the new patch my saved campaign is not there anymore. Is there any way of recovering it?

Ideas anyone?

If this is the GFWL removal patch then I'm afraid that you are out of luck. The save game location has been changed to a steam internal one and who knows if the save game format it self hasn't been altered either. If not then I would try to begin a new campaing, find the new save files and swap them for the old ones.

I didn't download the patch, where my save can be?

On my computer the save game is still being saved in the same directory, it just refuses to recognise the old saves...

I was planning to finish the original campaign this evening and move on to Choas Rising. I am not sure if this is good or bad luck, it's bad as I have lost my original campaign. It's good as that is all I have lost.... I would have been more annoyed if I had been abut to finish Chaos Rising...

Unfortunately the GFWL save files will no longer load in Steam. cb6dba - sorry to hear about the timing :(

I am not sure if this would work - we don't have any old GFWL save files that we could test something like that with. If that does work - keep us posted!
Same problem here. I actually have two files with my name in My Games/Dawn of war 2/Saved games, one [myname] (3 ko) and one [my name_(1)] (75 ko). That's pretty weird.
I tried to create another campaign profile and it is saved among my original games.
I've tried everything, disabling steamcloud, swaping files etc. nothing happens.
I was near the end of the game and I enjoy it a lot. I'm pretty mad right now.
I've looked inside the files, they're not "written" the same way pre and post patch.
Seriously, should I wait and hope for a fix, or start all over?

@Cynthia_RE
Why can't you fix it? I checked with Process Monitor and game still reads that old save files, it's just that it can't recognise them as proper save files

Oh Emperor, give me patience! I have just completed the original campaign of Dawn of War 2 and started Chaos Rising.
I was dreaming about having GfWL turned off, but my saves...

My understanding from the developer team is that this is not something that can be resolved. It was not done lightly and I can understand your frustration - there are some definite restrictions that are faced when working to update an older game/move it over in full to Steamworks. We wanted to save it from the Gamespy server so players could continue enjoying DoWII.

It would have been nice to have received a warning about this. Pretty poor information regarding the transfer to Steam from Windows Live.

There was a sticky post in forums about transition for like 1 or 2 months, so I doubt it was THAT "pretty poor information regarding the transfer to Steam from Windows Live". Also, you can thank Microsoft for this "transition" to begin with.

Do I have to turn off beta to apply the new patch? Will the saves from beta still work? I am almost at the end in coop, so I don't want to lose my progress.

No. I don't think you can. Do you have any idea how many hours' gaming has been lost without recourse?
