That BUZZING, it won't stop, destroys my game experience
Alright, so I am using Windows 8.1 I have purchased and installed DoW II Gold Edition. Installing the games was "fun" I suppose.

My problem is this completely irritating and revolting BUZZING noise that starts immediately when I load the game, Chaos Rising. The front end for DoW II does not display, ever. Only the front end for Chaos Rising, which sucks because I want to play DoW ii first, but I digress.

Audio is Realtek HD, after reading about DoW II using 44100Khz sound frequency I have changed my frequency from 44800Khz, this has improved the problem by decreasing the volume of the BUZZING>>>>

I have tried
-Decrease the sound channels from 96 -> 24
-Turn OFF Reverb
-Reduce quality to LOW from ULTRA
-Switch between PRO LOGIC and Windows Default for the sound settings.
-Play with the audio sliders
-Update Graphics Drivers. Update Realtek drivers.

None of this works! As soon as I go to an option screen, the LOADOUT screen or any of the star maps, I get a buzzing that will actually change in tone as I hover over the game buttons and Tabs.

In this state Dawn of War II might as well be unplayable for me, the buzzing is just too darn hard to ignore, and always louder than the game music. Guess I'll go play Winter Assault then...

Ok, well after some more testing. I tried adding V-SYNC in the documents/my games/Dawn of War 2/configuration.lua

I thought that V-sync solved it, but it actually lessened it. I turns out, after turning off my speakers during the worst of it, the buzzing is coming from my TOWER, specifically where my PSU is, WTH!? Now, im stumped, no other game does this, I'll have to go check SC2 and see if maybe my PC is going out.

No I have a brand new PC DOW does this on my new PC it is odd, I open the game get the noise. Then hit the start bar and look at steam and it stops making the noise. This is just on the title screen. Also you can choose what game you play when you goto start from the title screen.

Well I did some research, and it turns out many people have a buzzing sound issue coming from the GPU, and this is most likely my case as well. I turned V-Sync on and this seems to help, preventing my computer from rendering too many frames. And it seems only DoW II does this for me, Starcraft 2 on ULTRA does not, just proves that DoW 2 has better graphics, but we all knew that. :P

Yeah. It's called "coil whine". It's particularly bad with the 7970. I've noticed the noise mainly in menus/2d rendering.

Here's a video demonstating it:

Yeah, finally found some reading on that a while ago, for me it helped when I put on V-Sync so that I'm not rendering over 120 FPS on the menus... which is a problem that SC2 had but Blizzard patched it, c'mon Relic.

Not sure if you got an answer to this, but once you own DoW 2 gold it will always show the Chaos rising front end. Once you select campaign mode it will let you choose DoW 2 base campaign or the Chaos Rising campaign.

I have the same problem with a NVIDIA GTX660 OC

Gorka86: try limiting your sound channels to less than 96 in the game menu, and change your speaker frequency to 44100khz, also enable v-sync in the "ini" file. Hope that helps.
