Switch up the rest based on gear and mission description. Try holding on to different types of gear instead of trading it in for experience and only keeping the strongest in terms of DPS.
Stay flexible, and consider level-ups wisely - pick the squads, gear and skills that suit your playstyle best, but make small gear and composition adjustments when a mission gives you hints as to the enemy troops. Also better avoid Avitus when it comes to timed missions, at least until you have a skill that decreases the set-up and tear-down times of his heavy weapons. In defense missions, he can be invaluable, though.
i'm finding cyrus to be awesome with clearing out buildings (demo charges), vehicles(melta bombs), groups of units(grenades) and the strongest unit with a snipe even before i send in the rest
If i lvl up my FC's melee does thaddeus become useless? Or if i pump up my FC's ranged does avitus become useless? Should my FC do a bit of both so i can swap roles depending on if i bring thaddeus or avitus?
Looking forward to playing this game on the hardest setting ~_^
I don't think the FC will make Avitus obsolete. Avitus has easy access to heavy weapons and quick assembly, and he's got two squadmates to go with him. Combined with Tarkus, you'll probably be fine on the shooty front.
Personally, I used the FC more for close combat - he can whack pretty much anything well enough, and can take a beating. Especially supported by Tarkus and Avitus, he's a good gatekeeper.
That doesn't mean Thaddeus is gonna be useless, though. Sure, I used him the least, but that's more down to my playstyle. I did use him for missions that required speed over brute force, and his jumppack helps with quick relocating and stopping assaults. Getting him into Terminator plate also resulted in a lot of fun.
Stay flexible, best to not neglect anybody for too long. Mix things up, don't be afraid of trying new things.
....and I wish you luck with the Avatar of Khaine on the hardest setting. I'm not sure I beat it when I tried a few years back.
Orks are weak against bolters, wich are designed to kill them... Avitus, Cyrus and Tarkus...
Eldars are weak vs meelee... Tarkus (bolt pistol), Thaddeus and sometimes Thule...
The nids as I say you need to be fast... I tooke with me Avitus, Cyrus and Thaddeus...
Versus the Chaos Marines I don't have a pre-made choice...
Remember to take anti-vehicles and anti-buildings weapons in some missions... Tarkus, Thaddeus and Cyrus are the best in these roles...
Read carefully the mission briefing is a good way to choose your squads and weapons...
Just don't forget to always take some heal stuff with one of your characters ;)
And if I aren't wrong you'll be unnable to unlock the Space Hulk achievement if you take Cyrus with you because he doesn't wear terminator armour, neither Thule, because he's a dreadnought now :P
that's really good help
