Relic Account?

Haven't played for a while, but since they removed GFWL for steamworks I decided to redownload it.

When I fired it up, I got that yellow page to register a "relic account" to get free wargear sets (Chapter Command Wargear Set and Artificer Wargear Set).

Quited out and fired up Retribution and Company of heroes steam version and still the same yellow page. So I fired up DOW2 again and decided to make an account as it says it's an all encompassing for relic (relic games and forums etc).

Works fine, created account, email activation etc and got my wargear sets for DOW2 and no more yellow page popping up in relic games. No problems with this.

But when I go to the offical DOW2 forums and try to log in, it says there is no account by the email I used. Same for company of heroes offical forums.

So my question what the heck is this "relic account"?

It is suppose to be an all encompassing relic account (according to the text when I created my account) but doesn't even work in their offcial game forums and there is no login on the offical relic page either.

relic accounts used to be used for company of heroes matchmaking, but I thought they were phased out with the steamworks version. I'm not sure if they're still functional.

Odd, very odd. See, they only implemented this into the DoW2 games VERY VERY recently. This is one of those games I preordered & have played since, up until now, that register thing never showed up.

But this brings up a good & interesting point.

Why is it even there if we can't use it? And why all of a sudden ask us to register for something that's not working right?

Why would they offer you the gifts of two wargear sets which you should already have?

Those two sets were preorder bonuses and have now have been put in the game for everyone. They are obatined during the campaign and I remember finding those items without registering or preordering the game.

Are you talking as random drops? and do you have the extra chapters that come with those sets?

I believe you have to start a new game for the wargear to show up in your inventory but the extra paint colours and space marine chapters should show up in army painter.

Yes, those items were random drops for me. I also have the extra chapters and colors in the army painter.

No, they were not in my inventory at the start of the game. Just random drops. I ended up donating them for xp because I was at a point in the game where I had already found much better gear.

Ah guess that's the only diffrence then.

I pre-ordered this game back in the day and had to download the wargear sets from GFWL. They would show up at the start in the inventory in a new game. Seems when you register for a "relic acccount" it acts like this.

They must of patched in the weargear as drops after I stopped playing long ago, so that people who didn't pre-order still had a chance of getting the stuff in game.

I was wondering why starting a new game had me all this gear and though of some sort of a bug. (just started DOW 2 because I did not like that there was no base but since a 3 has been announced... :p )

Based on these replies, "Relic" is the perfect name for it.
