The enemies are too many, too strong and they all bumrush you, to the point of ignoring each other just to kill you. I understand the challenge has to be actually difficult, but without some insane luck of terrain blocking out enemies (who sometimes spawn INSIDE your starting borders), the challenge has to be restarted within first 2 turns, 99% of the time, to even have a PRAYER of surviving (which then doesn't materialise). I've managed to finish all of the campaigns except for Abu Bakr campaign, because the game eventually stalls out in Sassanian turn. The first time I encountered this was in Jerusalem stage (mission 2 in Abu Bakr campaign), but I eventually brute forced it to the point where the game wouldn't bug an eventually I won (brutal, but sort of rewarding).
