I very much appreciate having listened to feedback on this issue. I wasn't one of the people who complained, but after having understood the requirements for the good ending of Guacamelee, I can really appreciate devs who know when to tone it down.

Bending the knee for the casual complainers I see. Understandable though in this day an age. Need to bring the recent Steam reviews up.

Equating valid criticism that even the devs agree with to "casual complainers" is quite a stretch. It's always a good thing when devs handle criticism well and make the right calls based on it.

Not everything has to cater to tryhards, you know. Some of us don't enjoy getting frustrated. I always say that life is stressful enough on its own without my hobby being pervaded by more stress. Games should be about being fun first and foremost.

If you must really make things harder for yourself, that's what self-imposed challenges are for. Nothing is stopping you from refusing to pick up any of the upgrades, for example. I wouldn't even be against a harder mode aimed at your crowd, but it shouldn't be required to just beat the game.

Oh I definitely will. I'm working on getting 100% a little at a time.

No. It's up to the game to impose challenge for the player in order to feel the correct sense of accomplishment after completion. Self imposed challenges are merely gimping ones self unnaturally and for what end? It's like running a marathon with both hands tied behind your back. Doable perhaps, but why would one artifically limit themself?

The correct answer is for game developers to impose difficulty levels you select at game start. Difficulty selection is something harkening all the way back to the 80's. Very easy, easy, medium, hard, very hard. Abracadabra alakazam!! you now magically have a game accesible to all. No and I'm not talking about lame "accessibility options" that are so popular with modern games where you again artifically weaken/strengthen yourself. Those are just as bad as making up pretend limitations. These "one difficulty for all" Indie games defy design logic IMO.

Making the true ending easier to reach in Berzerk Boy's case could of simply been added to an "easy" difficulty. Adding difficulties would also add more replayability to the game. Beat easy mode? Now challenge yourself and move up to normal, or hard. Add slightly different endings for each difficulty, new boss attacks, more enemies on screen...Rinse and repeat. The game now becomes something more that you revist from time to time instead of just shelve indefinitely after completion. "Man, I'd really like to beat normal mode one day since i already beat easy!" ** proceeds to boot up game and play again. **

You get the idea.

Was there conditions to get the true ending? I got it without even knowing.
What were those conditions?

The medal requirement? Or the fact that no one directly points out what to do? I think it was fine as it was before. Letting the true ending be something for observant and dedicated players is a nice reward. But I also understand.

People who like bad things should be paddled
I'm playing for the first time (not because of this change, I didn't know about it until after I started) and the requirement is low enough now that you'll pretty much get all you need just from playing the game and maybe exploring a tiny bit. The requirement is now 20 medals given to the robot guy in the room right before the restricted area warp point. Honestly I kinda wish I'd known it was THAT low because I was beating my head against a wall trying to get way more than needed.

Pretty good first game I'd say. If you do another side scroller, I look forward to seeing what you take from this experience and apply to the next game.

I encountered a bug when returning the core. I warped to Dizzie's room, and the core disappeared. Restarting the game didn't solve it. Shame.
