second for turn this off. My kids love watching me play, and I'd let them play too (and I'd feel better about them watching me) if I could turn off the blood. Just the blood. Seems simple?

Yeah im on the fence. My son plays alot of ravenfield which he loves and i can turn off blood which just makes me feel a bit better about him playing. Hes asking for somthing new for his bday and this seemed fun. Personally i really like the fact that its only sp and pve. But im not a fan of the blood/gore particulaly the limbs and especially at the scale i saw in the videos (i mean it is ww1 right...). If there was an option to just turn those effects off i think id already have bought it for him. I mean im pretty sure i was playing doom on my dads pc at his age. Oh what do :)

I think when they are 8-10 is fine to play gory games. Hell I was playing Half Life, Doom, Duke Nukem, Unreal games, you name it back then and I was always a kind, compassionate and empathetic individual throughout my childhood, adolescence and early adult hood. But I understand, my oldest is 5 and I tell him all the time when he is older he can play more action games and play online.

i agree here, if your son is 8-10 and above he is fine since the gore in this game is more or less cartoony. so is ravenfields blood, although its a bit more real but still cartoony

I played DOOM, DOOM 2, and Duke Nukem 3D when I was 5-7 years old. Your kids will be fine

I played Hexen and Doom II at the age of like 5 Duke-Nukem 3d not much later. First game I ever beat from start to finish was Metal Gear Solid at like 9.

the only way any of these games affected me in any way, is i'm staunchly against nuclear weapons of any shape or size.

and maybe guns and fantasy ♥♥♥♥

i'll see myself out

When i was young, I was playing GTA 3 and my grand pop was watching and was having a good laugh too. at one point he just said "hey, you know none of this is real, right?" I always remember it, cause it wasn't well worded, but I immediately understood his meaning. That acting a damn fool shooting people in a game is not the way people should act within a society, but watching this goofy ♥♥♥♥ on screen is funny, aint it?

It's a war game...

What do you even hope to accomplish with this strict of parenting? Teaching kids that the only place for violence in the modern world is war, is a good thing. Teaching kids that war is gruesome and violent, is a good thing. Teaching kids that the human body is a tough, yet also fragile, vessel - that will get them to cherish their lives and live them to the fullest.

Only suppressing sexual content and sadistic torture make sense - those two things are not something you want to expose your kids to, because sadism is a bit beyond what's acceptable even in times of war and sexual content becomes an addiction for too many adults.

Doctors hack off limbs all the time. Nobody bats an eye at the doctor; they pay him hundreds of thousands of dollars from their insurance.

Cartoons are more of a threat to a child's mental development and well-being than some graphically generated gore.
