How to play?

I love the idea behind this game, but honesty I have no clue what to do.

Every time I spawn, I get absolute sh*tload of troops, there´s so many I can´t even select specific units properly.
Lot of units just wander around and doesn´t take cover.
Tactical map is too small for me to make sense of it.
One grid is for one unit, no specific positions.

Now I don´t want to hate the game, not at all. WWI strategy made me excited af, but so far I have impression that I just spawn the troops and then watch the battle as it goes, no point in giving orders since soldiers stand on sandbags or other fortifications.

Could you give me some tips how to play properly? I want to enjoy it, really do.

the bots cover system is a little wack but if you order them through the command map they will go to the best cover locations or i think that's how it works if you want a more tactical game play id recommend creating a scenario and having the different teams exchange fire from farther distances or at least that's what i do id also recommend that if you think there are too many troops decrees platoon size in settings.
