Why does the gas mask muffle your hearing?
It doesn't cover your ears..

My best guess is that it just adds more of a chaotic atmosphere for gas, or to heighten the sound of you breathing through it perhaps.

Some do and some don't, or at least they shouldn't.
Some of the gas should also be really bad for your skin on contact too, Mustard Gas should be an absolute terror to all these guys in their shirts and with exposed hands.

Isonzo recreates visual hindrances caused by the different masks, so I would love to see the right masks blocking your hearing. (and also providing more protection against skin contact agents)

A gas lethality update would be nice too, I've been caught with a lungful of the worst gas this game should have to offer and my guy comes out of it with barely a cough, so long as I get the mask on within a second or so.

Frankly that should be a death sentence and one of the scariest things that can be dropped on your trench.

Currently, it's just teargas with different colours.

Yeah I agree. Gas seems kind of pointless in the game. "Oh no, I have to press 4" - anyway, proceed as usual.

At least when you play officer, you're better off using the smoke, since that's actually useful.

The only thing i notice with my gas masks (irl) is the filter being noisy when breathing. I recall the same noises are heard in game, but i dont remember about any other disturbances. It's been a sec since i last hopped on Isonzo.

Maybe you are right, gas is not usefull yet. We have around 10 sec before dying.... maybe if you had less seconds to press 4 it would be really scary, like in the poem of Wilfred Owen

"Gas! GAS! Quick, boys!—An ecstasy of fumbling
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time,
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And flound’ring like a man in fire or lime.—
Dim through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams, you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil’s sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,—
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori."
