Really appreciate it when...
...you don't fix the issues that desperately need fixing (loadouts resetting, matchmaking issues, guns not firing OR gun firing noise won't stop), but when it's only an issue for you (player getting to use DLC for free), you get right to fixing it asap. I bought the Deluxe edition (whatever it's called, the $40 USD one) day one on Steam, did it really hurt to let people like me have three fireteam characters along with that? I'm sitting here with a level 10 Hammerhead (was one of my go-to guns) among other things that i leveled and now can't use. Anyone that bought the game prior to this patch should get the fireteam members for free. I'm not usually one to ♥♥♥♥♥ about not getting free stuff, but myself and others already had it and it just looks super tacky taking it away.

On the loadouts resetting, that's one I'm actively tracking for QA right now. If you experience this, please follow the steps I put here so we can get specific info to the team on it: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1556200/discussions/0/3112529260630717844/

I'll be digging through the conversations on here later to see if I can find some videos of the gun firing noise persisting: I had believed that to be resolved a while ago and I haven't seen it myself, so I'll need to get some video evidence for QA to speed up the issue replication.

On the Hammerhead access reverting to its intended state: We make all DLC weapons only early access, and can be unlocked through play not long after the DLC is initially released. Fortunately, Dutch 2025 was one of the first DLCs so the weapon is now unlockable through play. Unfortunately, the Hammerhead is a bit high in the free unlock level requirement at 115.

Are the three characters going to be able to be unlocked through gameplay?

Let me just add that I think it really sucks for a company to make a mistake that's in favor of the consumer and to then "fix it" by taking stuff back. That is almost completely unheard of in any other consumer relations situation, but it's somehow ok in this case? It's not our fault you guys let us have that stuff, level it up, and get used to using it, so why are we the ones being punished? As I don my tinfoil hat, it makes me wonder if you guys did it on purpose to give us a taste and make us want it back so bad we paid for it. Please, do right by your customers/players and grant access back to them. I've had a blast with this game and have been pretty patient with the issues it has, but this was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I think it is unreasonable to complain that DLC which wasn't intended to be free, is no longer free.

I also think it is unreasonable to not deal with bugs in a game people paid for in a timely manner. I would like to no longer have issues where my left click does not fire my weapon, and my right click will not aim down sights. These things should never, ever, have hick ups in an FPS game.

I can really only fault this company for not having a steam release discount, which is pretty damn cheeky given the game is already a year old, & they got a huge Epic payout (Which I don't blame them for, I'd take free money also lol). But we should have gotten something extra as a goodwill gesture for waiting (beyond the Predator DLC bundle a bit cheaper).
Like, say... the three fireteam characters? You’re entitled to your opinion, that’s fair enough, but in just about any other industry, the consumer would get to keep the “mistake”. One of the few reasons it seems ok with digital goods (mostly games) is because they always hold the keys to them and can swiftly and easily take them away at any point. If these three characters were action figures, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

Steam users didn’t get a pre-order bonus, a week one deal, or really much of anything other than the game just randomly being out. Feeling entitled to free stuff isn’t really a legitimate excuse when said free stuff was in our hands for almost three weeks (enough time for the 2 week refund period to pass).

You do make a point I never thought about: the refund period.

Removing content after people can no longer return the game does seem a bit off.

It is reasonable to think that some people loved playing Dutch because of the movies, and they enjoy recreating the experience. They may not have realized it was meant to be paid DLC when they bought it and it was all available to them. (To be honest, I didn't know. It just doesn't bother me too much.)

Removing content due to the company's error, after people can no longer refund the game does seem awkward. Not charging people money for content that was intended to be paid for and not for free is also awkward.

I am convinced that there may have been no good move here...except fixing the long standing bugs.

Again, I want my clicking of the mouse to work 100% of the time. There is absolutely no reason this bug should exist past an alpha.

I, personally, was under the impression we were given the two Dutch's and Dante as either part of the "deluxe" edition or a promo type thing. I didn't question it, as I was busy learning and enjoying the game. When people (like literally one dude that I can think of) started talking about having DLC they didn't pay for, I thought maybe he only bought the base game or bought it too late or something. It really gives me a bad feeling that this was taken care of roughly 3 weeks later. If they were worried that much about people using their content for free, why wasn't it taken care of before the two week period was up? Either way, I firmly believe this was the wrong decision.

PS - I'd appreciate some more dev input, please...

So, I'm not part of the group that puts the game up, but I can assure you there was no malicious intent. Besides that being COMPLETELY outside of the spirit of the company, it would have made my life hell to deal with it if it was intentional. I really, really wouldn't like that.

I am also not a programmer, but we identified a few issues that were super important to fix quickly. A clipping exploit was found in Airstrip, for example, so that was part of the update (plus we had to spend time trying to find additional ways some of the more persistent exploiters out there would continue to cause issues), as well as fixing availability of items in the free fieldlockers, or (fun one) if the Predator's bear traps were destroyed while being deployed, they could still trap Fireteam players. One thing I can confidently state, though, was that the DLC resolution was rolled into the hotfix, but was not the cause of the hotfix. Plus, we are actually a small team, so it takes a little bit of time to do make a new build, then test on (now) 3 different platforms.

As for the broader points, it's a legit bummer about the whole situation. I'm glad that a lot more people (unintentionally) got to see the work that was put into Dutch and Dante (Personally I think Dutch 2025 is the pinnacle of badass), but I'm bummed that people are disappointed. I want people to like a game that I think is genuinely fun. As for l/r click issues, personally I've never run across that but if people could link me, I'd love to make sure it gets logged. Additional information would be super helpful too. I came from the HW world, so I'm all too familiar with things like devices with virtual HID level device instances (for device programmability functionality) causing all sorts of weird issues with input

I greatly appreciate all of that, but could you please answer if we will be able to unlock the three fireteam characters through gameplay? If that's not the case and the content that was available during the entirety of the refund period are permanently cut and paywalled, then I would like to revoke my contribution via a refund. I'm sorry, I love the game, but I cannot and will not support such practices.

i'm pretty good with the game but since the update, like i said in the comment section of the patch note of the 2.20 , i lost my rebreather, it may be just a cosmetic problem, but i only find my predator to be only badass with it :)

I'll never besmirch someone for holding true to their personal ethics. To be clear: The weapons and equipment those characters have are accessible through level-gated unlocks. The character classes, with the unique likenesses and voice lines, are the DLC. So weapons like the Hammerhead and the rocket launcher are things you can unlock. And with future DLC, I would expect the same: The unique character classes themselves are paid DLC, the weapons will become unlockable to everyone a short time later. Unfortunately I can make no observations on the refund process: I'm not a part of the process nor have I ever refunded anything on Steam.

If you got the Predator pack and your rebreather mask isn't accessible, that would be a very, very interesting thing for me to get in front of Backend and QA. Game entitlements are (usually) a pretty straightforward thing, so if something is amiss, it's amazing what other things you can shake out. Sorry about not seeing on the other thread: I'm stretched super thin right now :p

Perhaps you could pass along some idea for Steam users some amnesty on the Jungle Hunter if they purchased within a reasonable time frame, in addition to possibly some sort of Twitch drops?

If you're talking about the Jungle Hunter 87 mask, I think you can unlock it for free from lootboxes, btw. Pretty rare though.

The class and mask. Also, for what it's worth, this thread reminds me of the Friday 13 threads except the community manager isn't calling us snowflakes.

wait, the loadout thing is a bug? I thought it was one of those
"You died, now be mildly inconvienced" kinda things. ♥♥♥♥ im stupid

I, unsuccessfully, attempted to refund the game twice. I'm not sure if both attempts were met with automated responses or if I ever got a hold of an actual human that actually read my entire request. I probably won't be making a third attempt.

Savini Jason? Yeah, it does and I won't open that can of worms, but I had the exact same thought.

With all of this in mind, hopefully Illfonic can come up with a way to make it up to those affected. I really and truly believe this was not the correct way of handling this situation, especially considering that Steam got the game a year later with no pre-order incentives. It feels like we're the "red-headed step-child" of the community.
