The game is online only. You are still connecting to a server while playing private matches.

Edit: An authentic offline mode might come later, and it should.

It is mate, steam went down for 5 mins earlier and i could not even get in to play a private match on my own, so whatever they said there im not gonna even look but its defo online only but this is the way the game industry is going, pretty soon all games will be online only including single player, most of the big games companys ditched millions of pounds worth of projects to go for online only, this is our future, no amount of complaining about it is going to make games companys double back, and people will say well i wont buy their games, wont work because 95% still will, it is only a tiny percent of gamers that piss and whine about it.
