How are people getting out of cotton candy?

The entire point of cocooning something is so they can't move anymore. So...how are they moving around inside of it? I'd say the only way out should be if another human cuts them out, and then the people in the cocoon are going to have health or movement penalties.

Still alive in the cocoon. If you have a knife, you can escape. It gives you that option. But not with a bat, or fry pan etc.
