DK2 support added! Tech details here
Hey all,

DK2 support for Aaaaa! is LIVE! Here are some notes:

  • If you are having trouble with Direct Mode, try Extended mode.
  • If you have trouble with the launcher option for Extended mode or want to pass your own arguments to the executable, such as -force-d3d9 or -force-d3d11, open the SteamApps folder on your machine and create your own shortcut to the Awesome.exe executable. Be sure to pass -vr otherwise it will not enter vr mode.
  • If you're having trouble with the game appearing on the wrong monitor, choose to show GFX options and pick a different monitor to display to.
  • As noted by a forum member, you can try passing -force-d3d9 or -force-d3d11 to the Awesome.exe executable if you're having trouble with DX11.

==Known issues==
  • Changing quality settings in-game while in VR mode (only Direct Mode?) can cause a crash. We're hoping Unity resolves that some time soon.

I cant get this working. I just purchased it. I have my DK2 in direct mode but starting the game just comes up on the monitor. everything else works fine. Please help.

Also having problems. Direct mode just displays a grey screen on the monitor (with sound) but nothing on the rift which shows its yellow LED). When I follow the instructions, adding the -vr to the launch option, holding ctrl and selecting the left monitor (which Ive checked is the DK2) it runs on the dk2 display but isnt in VR mode, instead just displaying the regular game screen spread across the two eyes. Everything is plugged in and the SDK recognizes the kit and the option is set to extended mode in the SDK... Am I missing something? This has happened on one other unity VR game as well (VRchat).

Maybe reboot Steam and try again. When you launch the game from your Library tab of the Steam client, it opens a dialog asking you if you want to launch in VR mode or regular mode. Make sure you're in direct mode and then pic the VR option (not in the game, it pops up within Steam)

Hmm. Yellow LED is no good. Try unplugging and replugging, then make sure you're in direct mode and try the 'desk' demo in the Oculus Configuration. If that's working, Aaaaa! direct mode should work for you too.

I gave that a shot and it works, excellent. Thank you very much. loved this game on DK1 and glad you and your team spent the time to update it for DK2.

It works, but the parachute seems to be broken. In the regular game I can turn after deploying it, but in rift mode I can still turn the view but I keep going in whatever direction I was going when I opened it.

I was unable to get this working.

First, I have Steam VR [beta] installed in order to play the Half-Life games in VR. When I switch the Rift to Direct Mode, Steam crashes entirely.

I then tried to just run Awesome_NoDlg_DirectToRift.exe directly from it's install folder. I get a blank, white window but I can hear the sound and music.

Then, I tried to run in extended mode by passing the "-vr" parameter to Awesome_NoDlg.exe. When I run the game, the game appears to be Rift enabled, but it appears on my primary monitor (the Rift is set as a secondary display).

I then tried to hold CTRL as I was loading the game so that I can choose the right screen. I see the selection dialog for a split second, and then the game runs and the window disappears. I don't get a chance to select anything.

Any thoughts?

Hey Atrushan. We dont have an easy way to support SteamVR beta mode at the moment. If you enable direct mode and load up non-vr Steam and launch the game and pick the VR option that pops up when you open Aaaaa! it should work. If you are having crashing issues with Steam, the way to do exactly that would be to make a shortcut to the direct mode executable in SteamApps and then add the -vr to it. That should do it for ya!

Looks like the parachute thing is a bug! Dang. Looking into that now.

I'm getting a puke inducing spin once the game starts. I have to keep dragging my mouse the opposite way to stop rotating! Its like i'm a helicopter and my rudder has fallen off!

You likely have a controller plugged into your computer and its analog stick is not completely deadzoned to the middle.
