Toree 3D

Toree 3D

Is there more to this game?
I'm genuinely so curious, because this game creeps me tf out. I bought it on a whim expecting a purely, cutesy platformer but it actually gives me so much anxiety.
Obviously if you've played the game, you know what I'm talking about.
The glitches, the grim reaper dude, the static noises, the skull face guy hanging from a building who falls down if you step on his hands, the stars that chase you, the monster in the ice world. The game presents such a cute atmosphere, and I wasn't expecting any twists, so these well-placed horror elements really spooked me.
HOWEVER, there was no ultimate payoff to this that I'm aware of.
Despite that, there are a lot of odd choices in the game that give off the vibe of it having secrets to uncover.
For instance, unlocking Macbat gives you infinite jumps. That's such an overpowered ability for a platformer, I thought for sure when I unlocked him that I was meant to use those jumps to uncover some secret parts of the levels; but I scoured them all and couldn't find anything. Like, in the very first level when the grim reaper flies away with your ice cream. He doesn't disappear from the map, he remains floating in the air way above you. So I flew up to him with Macbat expecting this to trigger something, but to my disappointment nothing happened. He doesn't even have collision, just floats there.
Then I thought that maybe the third unlockable character would have the answers, so I A-ranked every stage with Toree and unlocked him, but his only ability is running slightly faster.

If anyone has found any leads or reason to believe there could be other secrets please let me know. If this is all there is, then I really would have liked to see some form of payoff to the horror elements. Although, the fact that there isn't a clear payoff -- that the game remains kind of mysterious and lets my imagination run with creepy ideas -- is sort of a payoff in its own right.

Wonderful game for just $0.99 nonetheless.

I think it's more as a gag on how unnerving the feel of some early 3D platformers was (namely the Super Mario 64 iceberg and it's conspiracies), the first ice stage has a very uncanny empty feel by the end of the level just to be surprised by a gaping mouth (which won't even go after you) or the living ice block-monsters from the second ice stage will get you off-guard first time, but aren't particularly terrifying in design.

Obviously at the end these don't amount to anything, you feel more fright in your imagination than what the game actually provides, like toddlers who have odd traumas from old games

it 2was part of the game jam for haunted ps1 demo disc, and this game ( along with tasty ramen ) are more comedical in tone.

Oh, I didn't know this was part of a game jam! That does explain the length of it.
I am definitely gonna play Macbat 64 now though, and probably Tasty Ramen after that, I love this developer's style. Thanks for letting me know :)

it's cool that this is a gamejam deal, but it definitely does feel blue ball-y to have all these creepy bits not amount to any payoff. it's like, i understand, but damn

There are still some games with more content. Dont get me wrong, the price is VERY fair, but i think i would rather pay more and get more than pay and get this little. No story, no idea who the "it" is, it doesn't even interact with you in the last level, all it does is interact with you in the first and 5th level for a bit, not even a boss. I think Toree isn't wasted potential but more of a small scope game with REALLY good design that is a shame cant be applied to something larger.

there's currently a sequel for the same price releasing this month the 30th if you're still interested.

I came to the forums just to see if anyone else felt this way. I was so sure there would be a boss fight on the final level. I love this game so much, it's so cute and fun. I'm just glad there were useful, informative replies

The sequel for the game released not too long ago and (no spoilers) it's implied through some searching that there's a 2nd antagonist.

since it was in a horror demo collection i assumed something would happen, i guess it being a bit unerving kinda counts at horror but i thought if you go through the whole game or find a secrete in a level it would turn into a horror game

I think this game's horror aspects are sort of a teaser for Toree 2.

Because Toree 2 was part of the haunted demo disc game jam? Which means I bought the wrong one lol

I think the mild creepy stuff was supposed to be for the game jam, and Toree 2 I think doesn't have anything to do with that, but it sort of gives more context. Luckily it's super cheap and worth the price.

The snowball monster could be a reference to Mad Piano, because both of them have giant ass mouths and both of them made me ♥♥♥♥ myself.
I honestly like it that this game is everything it is at face-value, including the horror elements. I was looking for secrets too, but when I realized this I just decided to play the game as intended

well in the first level if you play as macbat and fly to the right edge of the star to your left at the beginning, you find a weird crocodile with a parrot, just a silly easter egg
