CotM: Are enemies meant to be stingy about dropping their cards?
Howdy, everyone. I was wondering if the game expects me to grind for the cards. Or maybe I've just been unlucky?

Am at like 45% map exploration, last boss I defeated was the Iron Golem, and I only have 4 cards, is that an ok number? Cause I do feel like the game is not all that varied when I don' have that much magic to use, but at the same time I don' wanna grind and end up being overleveled.

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Some of the cards have abysmal drop rates, yeah. One way I found in this version is to kill an enemy and if he doesn't drop his card, use the rewind feature to go back to a hit or two before the enemy died and kill it again. It counts as a separate kill and can help speed up card farming, especially against tougher enemies that take several hits to kill or that are far from a screen transition.

mercury and salamander have a 20% drop rate. the highest outside of that is 3%. those are just the base drop rates before luck though so getting luck boosts can help a lot. calculation if you want to calculate the drop chance is droprate*LCK/100. basically every 100 luck increases the drop rate of an item by it's base drop rate and it's capped at 25% for rare items (which every card outside of mercury and salamander are afaik).

That's a good strat for farming without overleveling, thanks.

Yeah, I do have the spell that increases luck, I'll try that.
the rng seed behaves stragely because you can get devil to get a different drop by going back just before the death animation and just cheese mirror armor. but didnt work with lilith. i could tell because i would only do it when i got a drop to see if it disappeared if i ran back the aninmation and it did so i did that ten times till it dropped armor. wouldnt work with the flying vampires hoes

I'll be frank. The drop rates are low, but you don't need them. The game's pretty easy.

Safe to assume that the drop rates are designed to be low to encourage replayability.

Which cards you attain can greatly shape your playthrough. Using rewind to cheese every enemy for every card robs the game of that element of design. It also makes an easy game...even easier.

Whatever floats your boat, I guess. Some people just play games with cheats. You can probably download a save that already has Magician mode (all cards unlocked). That probably makes more sense than trying to give yourself a false sense of satisfaction by cheating another way.

^Yeah, but I kinda prefer people getting all the cards and enjoying the experience of mixing and matching powers and such. I'd rather not have rare drops get in the way of that. I think a lot of the people who dislike this game just didn't experiment with the cards and abilities enough.

Besides, there's already rare drops just to get decent healing items and any good armor at all. No need to pile on more with cards as well.

so do you consider farming every enemy that can drop a card until they drop the card cheating? it's like rewind but now I'm also overleveled.

Well, let's think about this for a second. You're using a tool, which isn't part of the original game, that makes the game significantly easier and impossible to lose.

Do you feel like it's not cheating?

you didn't answer the question I asked. if I'm just farming enemies over and over again I'm not using a tool that wasn't part of the original release. enemies respawning when i re-enter the room happens in all versions.
