How many games in this are like Aria of Sorrow?
I mean in terms of the RPG mechanics and general gameplay. I don't really like traditional Castlevania (like the NES versions), but I really liked Aria of Sorrow and other games like Bloodstained.

All of them besides Dracula X that one is like the SNES ones with very little RPG elements its more like a platformer, all the other ones you level up and have save systems with backtracking and exploration much like the Castlevanias now.

They are all great games tho.
Hope this helps friend!

Okay cool, thanks!

Well upon buying it and checking it out, I guess I should have clarified that the main thing I was looking for was the weapon system. Aria of Sorrow is the only one where you can use tons of different weapons. Everything else is all about using a whip. I guess it's cheap enough where I don't regret the purchase but for anyone else who is curious, Aria is the only one with that level of variety. It's kind of like Dark Souls games where you can find just the right couple of weapons to fit your playstyle.

Dawn of Sorrow isnt in this one.

But they might eventually port it with Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia.

Okay so I should go look at those too. Thanks.

Specifically Dawn of Sorrow, which is a direct sequel to Aria with the same main character and ability system

If looking at indy titles, Timespinner feels and plays very much like Metroid CV. Maybe try that one. Chasm plays similar as well.

See above. Passing on Timespinner.

Nothing above explains why you're passing on Timespinner. Both it and Chasm have all the features that you mentioned liking about Aria. That's why I brought them up.

People should be warned that Dawn (unless you're using a hacked version) requires touchscreen/stylus use. As does Sisters mode in Portrait.

Almost every DS emulator I've seen allowed the mouse to be used for the touchscreen antics. It's not a big deal.

Ohhh whoops my mistake, I was thinking of a different thread I had made. Timespinner has idpol stuff in it so I pass.

That's true that CotM and HoD focus solely on the whip and therefore don't have any weapon variety. The DS titles are much better in that regard. I will say that while I love DoS, I find the touchscreen requirements of the game to be very gimmicky and frustrating. It would be a nearly perfect game if they just left out that garbage. PoR and OoE also have good weapon variety. PoR has you switching between two characters, a fighter that uses various weapons and a spellcaster. OoE has you playing as a spellcaster that is able to summon different types of weapons through "glyphs".

While I can say that I enjoy the GBA Castlevanias in this collection very much... I think the DS games were far better.

Spellcaster is an understatement. Charlotte Aulin makes Sypha Belnades look like a stage magician in comparison. She's overwhelmingly powerful.

You're not lying! Build her up and get her some good spells and she'll nuke entire rooms full of monsters.
