Disappointing
I was so excited when I saw this I thought ID finally be able to play CoTM again and complete the poison area without the cleansing amulet as a challenge but the controls are so garbage and even after binding new keys they fail every few seconds I asked for a refund. this is an absolute mess of a game.

the only good game here is Aria of sorrow but everyone knows that.
also this collection has 96% positive reviews.
And the 4% is mostly people who missed the fact that this is a straight port of games from over a decade ago and never claimed to be anything else.

CoTM was my first castlevania game ever, it's what introduced me to Castlevania so it holds a special place in my heart. also its a damn good game. As for the claim that its nothing but a port well ya I know nut I expect that to at least work properly. This is worse than the bare minimum.

CoTM is awesome and the controls are totally fine.

Seriously, what sort of garbage 10 dollar gamepad are you using that "after binding new keys they fail every few seconds"

I doubt anybody here believes that this is the problem of the game or the port. It's entirely you and whatever cheap input devices you use. The controls are absolutely fine and most mid-tier gamepads and up are superior to the dpads and buttons on any of the GBA models ever released.

controls seems fine.

CotM was... no is an excellent game. The only pure trash on this collection is Dracula X for SNES. Not that I'm gonna tell a person what games they should like or not, but just cuz you or me doesn't like a game doesn't make it fundamentally bad. Actually being a rotten game, points given, is what makes it so.

Back to topic, perhaps game is being played on keyboard. Game feels is practically impossible thanks to permanent binding and no in-game options. They shouldn't have done that. These games, even Dracula X, aren't anything like the games in the older Collection, so you can't just work with that. Before Camilla, it's annoying to aggravating. After Camilla, it really is next to impossible, even for a seasoned player. I expect it was one reason for keeping the Rewind function, as it just isn't needed otherwise, except for lazy/easy retries for drops (sans DX, ofc).

Anyway, not everybody likes playing with controller either. Personally, I don't much care for playing this an X-bone because the D-pad location is uncomfortable for these kinds of games. Why should I have to buy a new controller for one or even a few lousy games? Besides, in reality, these are just ROMs being run through an emulator. Why wasn't the emulator designed to support both multiple controller bindings and keyboard bindings? Lazy butts. You can't tell me for the money people are paying, they couldn't have spent some time on more than just excellent partial controller support. Hell, they didn't even bother to limit the save states this time around. Ten each game? Useless, useless, useless.

Oh, and ftr, and should be obviously, game ratings don't necessarily mean anything. One person's treasure is another person's trash, and visa versa, not to mention the insanely moronic logic of appealing to popularity, bandwagon, or whatever other puerile pap you can come up with. "If everybody does [whatever], shouldn't you too?" Now, where have I heard that before....

maybe i should go jump off a cliff

Bullxit. Dracula X may be inferior to Rondo of Blood, but it's still a solid game even with some fake difficulty it has.
And while we're at it, CotM is still one of my favorites.

I didn't notice any issues with the controls in CotM that aren't inherent to the game itself. After playing through it for the first time early this year and trudging through replaying it in this collection, I can honestly say that I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate CotM. Maybe it simply isn't as good as you remember it.

CotM has few glaring flaws. Much like SotN, though all but one were totally different points, funnily enough. Slaving a second jump key was... actually not one of them, but a middling one. Unfortunately, where else could they have put it?

See my review. I spend a whole con point blowing it to hell. It's the definition of cheap, cash-in, milking it, and fake. Fake doesn't refer to the difficulty, but the whole aspects of the game, and the game itself. I could blast it more, but it's a review. I wanted to take the time here for "trash vs treasure", but off topic, like how aspects of CotM beat SotN, not that it necessarily wins, but there's a reason I always bail. SotN is infuriating. More on that elsewhere if you want.

XboX controller... You seem like a diehard Konami fanboy to defend the game like that XD. Fact of the matter is keybindings are a must, and if binding new keys through steam causes issues with the game then its worth noting. If youre okay with what terrible mapping they have thats up to you but dont belittle others who prefer different key mappings and cant have that option.

I'm not sure what issues you're referring to here. You can rebind most of the keys in-game, and while I didn't like how you can't use the triggers for actual game stuff I easily switched around the bumpers and triggers on the Steam config and it's worked just fine since. I actually do the bumper/trigger switch on a number of games from Japan because they like to force commands on one that I prefer on the other.

I'd understand the complaint of needing to mess around with Steam config (just let us rebind everything in the game please), but I didn't run into dropped inputs. This is on a Series X pad.

What does this have to do with anything, go get your e-peen points somewhere else.

Circle of the Moon is a mess. You either walk too slow or too fast, and to run you have to double-tap the button, which you end up doing pretty much all the time. Moving in this game is chore.

The game-view is a terrible. You can hardly see what's in front of you, it's even worse for up and down, keeping a boss on screen is a nightmare.

It also seriously lacks a dash, so basically the only way to get away from danger is to double-tap the direction, which you'll fail from time to time.

All in one, this game really suffers from being made for a console with a tiny screen and only four buttons. It's a really shame that Konami didn't continue the saga on Playstation 2 and onward.

Then how come Aria of Sorrow feels and plays much better?
