Xbox 1 controller not working

Any known way to get this working, or am I better off installing retroarch?

I never could get my Xbox 1 controller working no matter what I tried so I had to refund it. I hope you have better luck but tbh Retroarch is probably your best bet.

he clearly already bought & paid for the game but the dev's shoddy port obviously has major problems. I paid for this ♥♥♥♥ and now that im half way through my controller suddenly stops working and ive wasted 50 hours trying to 100%. GG me i guess devs.

EDIT: Found a weird fix. go to your steam library select the game and near the top, under Play/stop and where it has your hours/achievements, click "controller Layout" select the official layout (which will probably already be the current one) and hit apply (even though its already selected). fixed my issues. im using a playstation controller though. No idea what caused the controller malfunction in my case
EDIT AGAIN: it truly is finnicky. it stopped working again and this time the fix was to open a different game and try again. the first fix didnt work again for me so now im more skeptical and idk if any of this is even helpful at this point. about 2 hours of troubleshooting.
