Cross platform play

My friend wants me to play this with him and a few mates, but I'm not buying another console just to do it.
As this states it includes Cross-Platform Multiplayer, does that include PS4/PS5? I have Xbox One and Steam, but to buy a PS4 just to play one game occasionally is overkill.
If anyone can tell me if it works or if there are added steps to accomplish this, I would very much appreciate it soon as the game is currently on sale.

I know I sound really houso here, but I am an actual dad with three kids, time and money are limited.
