Manual shifting and clutch
How much of an advantage is it supposed to give? I know that it should be noticeable, but it seems way too much. I was just in the same car (and the best tuning available according to a lot of testing by myself) as the winner in a racing event, on a map I know perfectly well and am in the top 1000 in rivals. I was beaten by a whole 10 seconds, which just seems absurd. The difference between a near perfect run and a terrible run for me is 2 seconds, and 10 seconds equals going from A class to S1. Is it really supposed to equal going up a whole class?

I haven't found a single clutch+shifting hardware setup that comes close to real driving to be fair. not even 1 %.

So to be fair the whole manual driving thing for me at least, is just a fun factor while roaming the map.

I just picked up a wheel shifter and e-brake just before fh5 released. I enjoy the manual shifting, I’ve noticed it worked well with low end older vehicles that are modeled with a gear shift you can rev up and dump the clutch to get you going quicker. But for newer cars and super cars that have paddle shifters I switch it to just manual and use my paddle shifters. It does a better job once you get into higher classed vehicles. They shift faster than any manual would shift. That’s how I use mine.

It depends on who you ask. I have a wheel with clutch and H-shifter. For me it is a MUST, if the car I'm driving is fully manual. I try to create the most realistic experience for myself. I don't care what's convenient, competitive or which is the fastest. When you master heel-toe, rev-matching, hit perfect shifts, either driving RHD or LHD (my wheel stand allows for switching the shifter position), it is extremely satisfying.

As for cars with sequential or dual clutch transmission, I use the paddle shifters.

It all depends on how much of a car enthusiast you are, why and how you play the game, and how far you're willing to take the experience for yourself, without giving a crap how everyone else plays. It's never about the advantage.

Automatic transmissions are the slowest way to go. Auto short shifts big time so you don't take full advantage of the cars power band. Manual with clutch is 2nd on the slow list. It takes time to clutch and shift by hand so you loose time every gear. Manual is the quickest option since there is little to no hesitation between gears and no need to heel toe on downshifts.

HAH! Glad there is another purest around here. I thought I was the only one that would swap the shifter for RHD and LHD.

Automatic<Manual<Manual+Clutch. Again, people just like to talk about their setups, about what's immersive, about what they're enjoying.. ''It depends on who you ask''; ''Manual is the quickest way''.. Big mistake asking here or listening to these players when it comes to being competitive in FH5.
Manual + Clutch without a single doubt in my mind, why ? Cuz I've tested both! Why? Cuz every competitive player who does team wars uses M+C, every world record in FH4 and FH5 is set with manual + clutch. The difference is there in EVERY car, but it's a lot more noticeable in some and a small fraction of them actually require the clutch, otherwise they're not that competitive like the M-B X-Class in FH5 or the Bugatti 110 in FH4.
Now, I can get top 100 rivals on every track, every discipline EZ, I got some questions for ya:
- Which car? Track? Tune? Believe it or not, those 5 stars tunes are usually garbage, easy to drive - but garbage if you wanna be fast. Obviously you don't know the track well enough since you're top 1000 rivals.. not even top 100 is impressive, top 10 maybe.
How about we both go and do this track together? Cuz I think it's your driving not the fact that you're not using the clutch.

I know about that. The easy to drive tunes are great for horizon tours and trials, but simply too slow for open racing since mostly the hardcore players (and rammers) are playing that mode. I'm not hardcorde at all, but enjoy a little bit of competition now and then. Of course I know the track well enough, but after a decent number of tries I will always be limited by my skill level instead. I'm well into my 30's, so there isn't anything to gain in that department anymore.

My point about rivals is just that I found it mind blowing to drive very clean on one of the tracks I know well and have beaten the vast majority of players, and yet be beaten by 10 seconds. That's what made me think that manual may be extremely much faster, especially since I was in a deliberately fast tune and he had extremely much faster acceleration. If you go 10 seconds the other way there will be no one to find really, since no players are that slow unless they come with an untuned car or crash badly. I could completely mess up every turn on a track, but would still never be close to losing 10 seconds. The rest of the players were just a little behind me, they had cars that were similar but seemed to lack a bit of track knowledge.

It is what it is anyway, since wheels aren't easy to use in this game I'll stick with automatic as having to press more buttons on a controller just isn't gonna work for me personally.
