That's enough (and actually the most important) to be the best driving game.
Content is lazy, recycled, made for retention and online service.
And that's where FH4 is a better game.
Tuning is actually bad : stats are wrong. Am a casual that was interested in tuning. Not anymore...
Collecting and farming is not enjoyable.
I want to play when i want what i want with fair competition.
This is where most companies fail online to cheaters...
Amazing graphics, sound effects, car choice and tyre physics.
I just despise the kid pleasing arcadey nature of it.
No cinematic cams at all, in replay or whilst driving.
Colourful illuminated track banners everywhere and no actual race tracks, just checkpoint routes mainly.
As I say its great for the younger car cruise drifter style player, less impressive as a motorsports simulator, I enjoy free roam though.
1. FOMO and FoTM content cycles.
2. The map is pretty mid.
3. AWD supremacy.
4. Strongly entrenched Meta that offers little reason to experiment with different cars.
The map is the biggest detractor here for general enjoyability. It's reasonably big, but it also is chock-full of dead space and boring, overly-straightforward roads, and it lacks in variety pretty hard. You basically have 4, maybe 5 'biomes': Desert with white dunes, desert with plants, farm plains, and then on the east side of the map you have a forested area, with some of it being 'southern rainforest' while some of it fits more in the temperate forest category. There are little dots of other terrain types here and there, but they are out of the way and tiny enough to forget they even exist. The game follows a pretty obvious and formulaic 'X% of map is this terrain type' checklist, and it's basically just washed across the map in contiguous chunks from west to east, starting with Desert and ending with forest. It just feels 'designed without passion'.
The Rally Adventure expansion's smaller, but more dense and more importantly, complex map is a lot more fun, even though it shows a lot of the same variety lack. The game also lacks anything that REALLY feels like a city or populated space. You've got one 'city' in the form of something that feels like an 'old quarter' or 'historical district' in a larger city, and that's basically it.
Thats all i read, people seemingly hating this game and me as a newcomer was confused because from what ive seen from the gameplay, it looks just fine
thats good to know
+ best driving an arcade game can offer. The only game to come close IMO is Dirt 3.
+ unmatched car selection, both sheer number and variety
+ robust upgrade and tunning system
+ drive anything you like, SP doesn't restrict what you can use, you can clear the map in starter car if you want to
+ new cars added to game every month
- map is dull compared to previous entries
- AI is insultingly bad, balanced mostly by rubberbanding
- lack of any active balancing in PvP. There's clear meta, and it hasn't changed since day one
If they removed arcade events (or at least allowed us to permanently disable them) and fix all annoying issues, like no way to skip cutscenes, long loading times, stuttering, allowed us to disable speed traps permanently, allowed us to memorise our map preferences, if they completed all cut-scenes (which are unfinished), etc., then the game would become good. Note that there are many more problems with the game.
So, right now, we cannot say this is a good game, because it has many issues, but we can say it's fun to drive and it has many cool cars. It also got other things right, like the controller experience. However, the developers keep adding new cars instead of solving the actual problems. New cars will not make this game better. They don't understand this.
I think the map is beautiful. Matter of taste I suppose.
