I played the game from pre-release and did a lot of Arcades completing the Accolades for them, including the one where you needed to do one every 15 minutes for 4 hours or something without changing car so I don't feel the need to do them.
I think for a lot of people it's because of the servers: In FH4, you can see everyone on the map in that Horizon Life session so you can see the people congregating from the other side of the map; in FH5, you can't see how many are there until you get close to it. I think a lot of people may look at the map, see no-one there and think no-one else is taking part so don't bother (even though it's easiest when you are solo)
But yeah if you don't play with friends, chances of meeting other people randomly in the arcades is quite rare.
FH4 also had live events on the dlc maps which this game doesn't.
Btw does anybody know if theres a limit to forzathon pts you can earn from Arcade rounds? can you just keep doing them and farm points? I wanna get as many of the '87 porsches i can and flip em
It really doesn't help that if you do stumble onto one on when you are out cruising you have to open up the map to find out which one it is. Couldn't they have a visual or audio cue as to what it is visible in game, like maybe the blimp could be colour coded or something?
And if you really want to do them, you are waiting around, but OTOH they come around so frequently there isn't anything special about them. And if you don't need the FP points, why bother.
The convoy system in FH5 is pretty much useless unless you already have a group of people lined up. The game does a really bad job of encouraging people to group up. Fallout 76 goes out of it's way to encourage you to join a public group when you log in and gives you rewards for staying in the group. Warframe relies on the LFG chat but the community uses it well to help you find people who want to do certain things. Division 2 has open proximity text chat that and other ways to see what people are doing so you can group up and join in.
If FH5 had prominent group system, organised by type, with some kind of ongoing reward (say Arcade Convoy - 10 extra FP per event completed per member) that might encourage people to join and stay with a group that are doing what they want to do.
It's never going to happen. The social features on FH5 are either silly or non-existent. It's an industry trend that the social features have been watered down to the point that you never know if you are playing against real people or bots.
Another poorly thought out feature in a game that is already over-bloated with features.
Part of this seems like a sim-esque racing + open world game engine doesnt lend itself well to developing non-car/road stuff since of course the concentration of this engine's power is towards the INSANE amounts of physics data being processed.
I think the issue on the business side though, is now that Turn10/Playground collab and the Horizon series has established itself as its own entity and "brand", theyre commericializing much more bc they just have so much more traction now.
More traction always leads to more opportunities, leading to more saturation of brand partners, sponsors, creators, etc; and that inevitably leads to more optimistic ideas than fully fleshed out realizations of those ideas, more commitments than fulfillments.
This is an incredibly solid product (FH5's fictionalized Mexico map and different racing styles and mechanics are very well thought out and implemented) being muddled by the consequences of this overzealous development.
Really though, it might just mean that at this point, theyre actually working on FH6, and just putting FH5 on maintenance. Get the interns to learn the codebase and churn out some random filler stuff so FH5 can hang on just enough until FH6. Who knows, still love the game though
I'm not entirely sure what any of that has to do with OPs original thesis or what I said. It looks like a post made by an AI. Also, there really is no need to quote somebody's entire post, especially when it is that long and you aren't really addressing what the person said.
But since I'm bored enough, I'll respond to some of your points anyway. And maybe we'll see if there is a real discussion going on.
1. The engine is perfectly fine for all the game modes it is called upon to do, with the possible exception of the track builder mode which feels unfinished and I almost never see anything useful there. You can't build decent tracks with it, and the AI struggles so it's really only good if you have friends to race with.
2. Turn10 etc is only a brand. It is not a studio in any traditional sense. Microsoft don't really have studios, and most of their devs are on short term contracts. They just stick labels on things and it's all meaningless. Supposedly the same 'studio' is working on the next Fable game. That makes no sense from a branding or organisational sense.
5. I pretty much said that I didn't expect anything to change and yes they must be working on FH6. Given the complete crapshow that was Motorsport, the abysmal state of the gaming industry and the complete lack of vision or focus from Microsoft for any of their consumer products, I have zero faith that FH6 will be a product worth buying. The Forza brand means nothing to me. Turn 10 means nothing to me. It's just that FH5 turned out to be a really good game and I just think we got lucky it came out before the rot really set in.
Also, for crying out loud, could they stop with the dumb numbering system already. The games should have been called Forza Horizon UK and Forza Horizon Mexico and the next one should be called Forza Horizon Japan.
The more people there are playing, the more points you need to rack up during each round. And the problem is, there is ALWAYS one or more individuals just iddling during the event, which makes it harder for everyone else.
When you're solo, the point requirements are very low, and the event is easier and quicker to finish.
