FH4 vs. FH5
So I finished FH4 100% this year and got over 200 hours out of it. Tbh I'm itching to get back into Forza Horizon and other racing games don't really compare. So I want to ask how does this game compare to 4? Better? Worse? I saw this has a lot of MTX DLC and I heard it has a lot of FOMO too so I'm a little sceptical...

hahah hell yeah brother, i hoped that the game would get better if i played for a bit longer. i literally downloaded FH4 yesterday to play it instead of FH5, because FH5 is just too easy and offers nothing.

Where FH5 beats FH4 by quite some margin most of the time is with EventLabs. FH4 you were able to create some really good tracks due to the excellent map but you were limited to only checkpoints. FH5, on the other hand, gives you almost unlimited freedom to create what you want....whilst it's cluttered with absolute garbage, there are so many amazing tracks in it. To be able to drive around replicas of real world race tracks (some people have even replicated the Nordshleife) or on tracks that are designed for madness.

I've played well over 2,000 hours on FH5 since release and it's definitely much more fun when played with friends or people you know.

They are equally good, all things considered. If you really like one then you will like the other one too. You won't be able to choose just one! Fortunately, now the prices are coming down and the Forza Horizon fan can save the money in their parents' swear jar (for their foul mouths, not your's) and get both when on sale. Although game 5 is more advanced in some ways (It's also bigger), the English map is gorgeous and it has a dynamic weather system. They have similar strong and weak points for the most part. They even have one unrelated mini-game stuck in there as if the first of two expansions for the entire (full price) edition. I suggest you skip LEGOs and Hot Wheels. They both have a second expansion that makes perfect sense in the context of the launch day form of the game, and both are fun. Forza Horizon 4 and 5 are both well-made versatile racing and car collecting games with fine graphics work. The difficulty level can be dialed down and made accessible for brand new "drivers" to use their controllers, and it can be dialed up to give more experienced race gamers a simcade experience. It is so customizable in singleplayer; I love it. *I have noticed that online play is a problem, so that could even be e deal breaker for some.* Not a concern of mine; I don't enjoy racing with real people....what a major hassle, in any racing game really.

Better than FH4:
  • Better handling on tarmac. Manipulating grip by weight transfer and countersteering is way more effective, because loss and recovery of grip feels more gradual now.
  • Expanded upgrade options, like new transmissions, tyres, anti-lag turbos. You can also enable Launch Control, to prevent unwanted burnouts on launch.
  • Eventlab, if you have patience to play with it. As for downloading ones made by others, finding good tracks may require long wading through garbage, because quality control or player ratings don't exist.
  • Horizon Tour, new MP mode with championship-like requirements. Technically 6v6 Coop, in practice 6 players PvP, because AI in this mode is hillariously weak.
  • Obligatory city part is very nice. City is built on slope of a hill so has curved roads, proper corners, as well as tunnels and elevation changes.

Worse than FH4.
  • Map is big but dull. South is pretty nice, but Northern part are large open areas of mostly nothing, and in some seasons all of it gets grey/brown and ugly.
  • AI is worst in series. Not even pretending to play by same physics, has attricious amount of rubberbanding.
  • No Team racing in PvP.
  • Hot Wheels 2 DLC is plain boring. Tracks are so foolproffed and dull I catch myself dozing off racing them. You will likely just harvest rewards, and only visit for Playlist points.

Up for dispute
  • No winter. Sure, English winter was barely a winter anyway, but it's always something different.
  • Tracks are easy and mostly flat. Reversed in Rally Adventure DLC, with it's sharp corners and constant elevation changes.
  • No Ranked PvP. Sure, it was metacar fest, but it could be reformed into more skill based PvP mode, instead of being simply removed.

False news. Get both. Decide for yourself. The physics of RWD is vastly improved on FH5, you don't feel the need to upgrade every car to AWD like FH4,
FH4 Goliath was overall faster than FH5- FH5 is more technical, - it's FH4 on a far more barren land with 1000+ cars, and improved physics,
Drift club is missing from FH5, it never came through, and they released far more DLC as cars post-game than it felt like in FH4,

It takes a bit more effort to have fun in FH5, but there are far more things to do, which is so overwhelming, and that's what makes people unsure of what to do in their free time,

Also, i'm not sure if co-op in fh4 let you complete races as a group but that lets you do a tournament/series in 2 of 3 races, if you win the first two, instead of needing to do all 3 races. I only did co-op for the first time in FH5 - so if it was in FH4, in my 1000 hours i didn't test it , my bad. It's a great feature.

There's also a method of car battle royale in both FH4,and 5, so that option is for both,
Tour racing, - both games let you make your own tracks in the world they've provided you with, I reckon get both because 31 DEC 2024, FH4 will no longer be purchasable on Steam ever again. Aftermarket keys will be your only go-to, and then people can charger overboard prices;

Spoiler alert: the EXACT same bugs in FH4 carry through to 5,
Bookmark forza support when you have got bugs/issues; - they've restored my 300h garages of cars when i bugged out because of steam cloud saves/choosing the wrong one; and then corrupting it; but it came back all as gifts- stock, you must tune em all again. that lasted,

Soundtrack is better in FH4, Topgear is better in Fh4 - non-existent in FH5.
The lego DLC was a turnoff- but good investment for my children one day.
The Mountain DLC for drifting was good, and I'm sure it HIGHLY inspired the Mountain drift track in FH5, which is 8? or so kilometers, - continuous tokyo drifting around hairpins, and great for this type of driving, or even off-terrain, Mexico is super fun. there's mountains, and valleys, very different to united kingdom, cold and wet, mexico is high and dry.

Fh5 DLC's of the rally- meh - helicopter following you, annoying particle dust blowing in your upcoming turns...
Hotwheels tracks- meh- special tracker in the middle of the screen to help car orientation, but it's about getting ridiculous speeds with underpowered cars, that dream of these tracks boosting them at night

I played Forza Horizon 3 and 4, also Forza Motorsport 7 and had mixed feelings about Forza Horizon 5 but in end it is worth buying. Of course you decide if you buy it for full price or on sale (overall the cheaper the better xD). For me Forza Horizon 5 is the best about cars that I love (for example Mercedes 300CE 6.0 AMG C124, 300TE 6.0 AMG S124 and 500E W124, in december they will release E55T AMG S211).

Forza Horizon 4 is objectively superior over Horizon 5 just based on the fact that the AI don't CHEAT in FH4 alone. FH4 also has a better car variety (Even though it doesn't have as many), better map location, better track and point-to-point race spots, better DLC... Seriously, Horizon 5 was so bad that the second expansion was an honest-to-every-forsaken-god asset flip. I'll let that speak for itself and sink in.
ngl, just based on how you're talking imma choose to ignore all this and say FH5 is better

I've been playing Forza Horizon 4 since June and I loved it, so I decided to buy Forza Horizon 5 a few days ago and... I can only say that I love it, it is FH4 but bigger both in map and content which is just what I wanted.

Yes, the map may be more visually boring but the fact that it is larger means that I don't learn the map so quickly so the sense of freshness will remain longer here than in FH4 and makes it not so repetitive in the playable sense. For me, the fact that in a racing game the map is larger is good because the possibilities of racing can be much more creative and vast.

I played fh4 for a bit over 170 hours first and then started 5 and.. It was a big disappointment instantly. I thought for a long time that I will never end up playing even for 160 hours, but here I am. I still don't think it's as good as 4 was, but I've passed fh4's hours with ease and I don't see myself stopping any time soon (although my game keeps crashing every 30 to 60 minutes..). The game has really grown onto me.
