Steam friend integration

Is this game supposed to be able to see my friends from steam? I was only able to add a friend by logging into XBox live. Afterwards we still struggled to get into a convoy together. I wasn't getting invite popups, my friend would get the invites from me but accepting didn't do anything.

Any tips? I have no idea what I am doing wrong here. I would think this should be straight forward.

If invites in the game aren't working then you should use the Gamebar overlay, by default the shortcut is Win+G (Win = Windows key). Click on the xbox social icon to display your xbox friend list then right click on the friend [Game -> Join game] (to join their game) or [Game -> Invite to game] (to make them join your game).

The person getting invited should get a pop up from gamebar regarding the invitation and they should accept, the game will put both you and your friend in a convoy, alternatively just use Join game option as that's much better in case the pop up is the issue and still does not show.

adding a random is so impossible in this game on pc it is like they dont want pc players to have friends or something

I agree but it's the problem of gaming nowadays where game publishers just want to have their own launcher but here's a solution:

The same Gamebar overlay can be used to add randoms (players you've recently played with), just simply open the overlay using Win+G (Win = Windows key). On the Xbox Social window, there's an ellipses button (...) right above your friend list, click on it and you'll see "recently played with", click under Forza Horizon 5 and you shall see a list of players you've played with dating back to a week (they are sorted by most recent and it shows exactly when did you play with them), if you can recall their gamertag, you can add them here as friends.
