how do I play forza horizon 5 with my son using different accounts on windows 10 pc

Hello,

my son just purchased FH5 and we installed it on our pc a few days ago. He loves it and by chance so do I. He used a microsoft/xbox account tied to my personal email, gmail account, that I do not even remember creating but maybe I did that from an earlier game I purchased at some point.

I am wondering since I purchased FH5 on steam if I can start my own game, I understand I would have to use a new account but is that even possible. I am confused because I have read people have had difficulty setting up multiple accounts and for some reason the microsoft/xbox account that my son is currently using is not the same account used for my windows pc which seems to be an outlook.com account. Some people on the internet have said you need to log out of microsoft windows store and the xbox apps and then login with a specific account you want to use but I the windows store is currently logged in using my windows account and I do not have any xbox apps installed with the exception of xbox game bar.

I find it quite confusing and am worried if I try to create a new account I might end up deleting his progress. Can someone please walk me through exactly how to make sure we can both play and easily switch between our two accounts. I do not currently have any xbox apps installed so we just run the game directly from steam. Thank you.

While it is technically possible to do, I don't recommend it. It's a lot of steps and you can easily bork something. Also, I don't think it would work for your needs anyway. The game wasn't designed to allow you to have two different accounts use the same license.

I bought a second license to address this, that is the best way to go.

Each user having their own steam account, and MS account, and game license is really the only easy way to go.

I've seen multiple examples of people using family share for this game, so it is possible. I'm just not sure whether they were using different microsoft accounts or not.
