User_seeminglyrandomnumbers.profiledata
Example: User_78211131DRYB9.ProfileData
_________________________________________________________
This may work for some of you who have lost some or all progress in fh 5.
I do not have cloud save enabled on this system so this may not work .
with that here is how i recovered about 90% of an entire progression loss, due to a reinstall of fh5.
there is 2 directories to be concerned with.
if you are lucky there will be a directory in
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\ForzaHorizon5\User_SteamLocalStorageDirectory\ConnectedStorage\User_somerandomnumber Example: User_78211131DRYB9
in this directory is file called (somerandomnumberProfileBackup)Example: 3345272545650731ProfileBackup
if this directory does not exist you can probably stop reading now , as its a high probability this wont work for you.
The ProfileBackup file can be copied and placed some where safe for a backup.
(right click on file choose copy , then go to a location where you want to place the file for back up and then right click paste)
the next directory we want to go to is.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\*yoursteamidnumber*\1551360\remote\lookslikerandomnumbers
;or your steam install location
in that remote folder will be a directory that most likely will be the same as the profilebackup number : example 3345272545650731
in that directory will be a few hundred files
you are only interested in two .
it is the file called (some string of numbers and or the word User_seeminglyrandomnumbers.profiledata
Example: User_78211131DRYB9.ProfileData
back up this file and and move it out of the directory and note that it is a bad profile vis a txt file also document the file name in that txt file. also do the same thing for another file with a similarname except its called profilebackup. (to prevent confusion in future steps)
you want to keep the file name intact though as the file name is important.
go back to your previous profilebackupfile that was copied earlier. and copy and paste into this
remote\seeminglyrandomnumbers folder that has the few hundred files in it .
then go to the bad profile location choose the file, rightclick rename (important !! higlight all the text in the rename field and then right click and choose copy.
((what we are doing here is copying the file name not the file))
go back to the remote directory that we we have been referring to
and find the profilebackup that you pasted earlier.
right click rename this file, then right click again and choose paste.
((what we have done here is renamed the backup file to the actual user profile and if all goes well the game will load this as the user profile))
if successful the file name should now be something akin to
User_78211131DRYB9.ProfileData
and if luck is in your favor. and this backup has not been written over by the bad profile.
you maybe able to boot into forza and have your lost progress restored.
things of note, this was done immediately after i had lost progress due to a reinstall of forza.
this backup location may or may not be there depending on cloud saves ?
this backup location will be over written fairly quickly so there is a good chance its no longer a back up of your old progress.
also of note it may be worth backing up this file from time to time in case of future disasters.
