FH4 is set in a super empty world, devoid of color and life.
I like FH4's attention to detail in the map. The city feels less copy paste and has details like traffic lights and trains running. Also all the little terrain details like flowers, walls, rock formations.
The music stations in 4 are better too. The songs actually have a melody! 🤯 I wish we could change the music in 5, I'd download a soundtrack mod so that I can keep the DJ commentary.
But the RWD handling in 5 is much better and it's not raining all the time. Also the engine sounds are better and my character can get a haircut!
Also Hot Wheels was a nice addition because of the loops and slides and boosters.
Before Hot Wheels I liked 4 a bit more, after Hot Wheels I'm liking 5 more but I agree the base map feels a little plain.
IO do agree that the lack of Alfa, Abarth / Fiat and Lancias do hurt the game overall tho but sicne I bought 5 I barely ever played 4.
The loss of map wide seasonal cycles was the biggest step down for me.
Sure, there are small changes like rivers drying up, but it's just not anything to write home about.
FH5 is the better game, but purely talking about presentation and setting, FH4 wins hands down for me.
I actually much rather feel that the map isn't properly used to its full potential.
The Mexico map is actually pretty varied in its biomes and has some really great vistas that are often completely neglected by tracks.
I still remember the Windmill hill, the giant dam or the Quarry from FH4.
They stuck with me because they have been regularly featured in tracks and challenges.
I genuinely can't think of a track in FH5 that incorporates a unique vista point other than the northern track under the train tracks.
But this might just be bias on my part. I wouldn't want to rule that out.
It's just how the Mexico map felt to me: Not empty, but unmemorable.
