PSA there is a save game backup for Horizon...

its just buried and in a odd location, and is over written quite often .

this file is located in

C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\ForzaHorizon5\User_SteamLocalStorageDirectory\ConnectedStorage\some_string : most likely User_8237266483 or something like that .


in that folder there is a file called _randomnumbersProfileBackup
example: 7389008763ProfileBackup

that file appears to hold the majority of your progress in forza if you back this this file up
you can restore some lost progress by placing this file in the directory located in your steam install directory

userdata\**Steamusierid**\1551360\remote\seeminglyrandomnumbers
example: \1551360\remote\7389008763

then all you have to do is. move the bad profile out of the directory. ** keep that file name intact you will need it**

the bad profile will be called something like User_8237266483.ProfileData
move it out of the directory and if you want to keep things some what simple. also move the similarly named file called User_8237266483.ProfileBackup.

remember these filenames are just for reference they will differ.


then all thats left to do is rename the file you copied earlier from that connected storage folder to the filename of the file your removed from the remote folder.

so basically your renaming 7389008763ProfileBackup
to User_8237266483.ProfileData

with that done and a with a recent back up of that file you should be able to recover lost progress up until that backup.

its not perfect, and may not even be an option for some , but these files are your progress saves .

User_8237266483.ProfileData is your progress in FH5

and the file called 7389008763ProfileBackup is a back up created by either steam or FH5. having these file backed up can possibly keep you from loosing your progress in FH5


the other file User_738900876ProfileBackup is more than likely another backup, depending on circumstances it may prove useful. but im my case this file was an exact duplicate of the bad profile.

And again the file names are examples yours will be different. if not let me know and ill go play the lottery .



Words Of Warning, i would not goof around with this unless its absolutely necessary , even though i did recover my lost progress there is still some things that seem not right. like the cars i customized, no longer show their picture in the menu nor do they have their custom paints. the car and the tune is still there and is driveable. but the menu picture is blank.

this also may go for tracks you created also.

also if your on the hot wheels map you will need to go back to mexico to get acess to some of your cars . as some may seem to be "locked" going back to mexico fixed this.

hopefully this can be used to mitigate lost progress issues in the future.

but as with all things technical, your results may vary.
