The driving in FH1 is better than the driving in FH5
FH5 is the first Forza Horizon game I've played. I love the graphics, love the landscape, love the amount of content and the huge roster of cars but I couldn't get it into it because of how bad the driving feels. Every car understeers in the exact same way, even if you're in a super high power street car doing 180 MPH/h on the dirt. There's no personality to any of the driving.
Then I read some reviews where people said the older FH games were better so I got a copy of FH1 and dusted off my 360 and I'm having a blast. Cars like the Hennessey Venom actually take some control to drive and can spin out or get into a slide where you have to counter steer to keep control. Even the first car, the VW Corrado felt more alive than anything I drove in 5.
5 feels like everything is plastic and fake, there's no personality to anything it's just stupid dances and understeer.

Then play FH1 but realize that this is a subjective opinion rather than a fact, fact is FH5 has teh tightest driving model of the entire series so far.

As for the game looking less realistic than the games before... LMAO, you serious? That said I do agree womewhat that FH5 feels bland and soulless compared to the earlier entries, that's what happens when there's no stake in the story and you trewat everyone like a superstar from the getgo.

As such there is no rfeal sense opf progression and that's a shame becaue that's the opne thing missing to el;evate this game to greatness.

The default tunes are quite understeery so it's indeed hard to spin out. If you tune for oversteer, especially the anti-roll bars, you do have to put more work into controlling the car.

Also the game turns on a few assists like Traction Control and ABS by default. Turn it off and you'll need to put more effort into throttle control too. The nice thing is good manual control will get better lap times than assists.

I never said it looks less realistic than the previous games. I said it has amazing graphics. The plastic and fake comment is in regards to everything else. The game feels like it was made by committee and without any passion.

Do you think it's strange to share an opinion on a discussion board?

If it looks fake, it looks unrealistic as these are opposites. I personbally think teh cars look damn great and pretty dclose the real thing, I also think environment are ptetty spot on and if you want to be convinced you can look at this:

Only the characters models look pretty bad uin my opinion. It's even kinda amazing when you start thinking it runs on XBOX One.

It is when you're stating it as a fact. Which is not.

Enjoy FH1, I guess?

Supercars are harder to race in FH1 because roads are bumpy as hell making your grip often inconsistent throughout maneuver, while tracks tend to be walled on both sides, and when they're not, sliding/boucing off road will likely get you slammed into mithril post or a nuke-proof bush. Or just catapulted into air.
Other than that, I don't see that much difference. Default tunes are more refined maybe, which is a good thing because you can't tune cars yourself. One defnitely positive thing was no drivetrain swapping, though.
The only game in franchise that really stands out with driving model is FH4, with it's weird tarmac handling and great dirt/mud handling.

Nah I'm playing with an xbox controller on both. Do you not find that every car understeers in FH5? I haven't driven a car in FH5 that has oversteer or any amount of instability. They all just understeer like they are boats.
TheSmilingDoom Oct 18, 2022 @ 12:42pm
Well, the cars are understeery by default, and some excessively so. I'm so used to tuning them that it doesn't matter much to me, but I think it would benefit the series to reduce that somewhat.

That would be true until driving model changes 2 months (?) ago. Now it's nothing I can't compensate with good use of brakes and throttle, unless I drive Audi, or untuned AWD that stocks at 50/50 torque bias.
I drive mostly stock in SP, only taking fine tuned cars to PvP.
