oh wait...
As Husky said, everyone has their own view. Some are very narrowminded and uniformed. Some are a bit too passionate about what they like.
Honestly you'd probably get better info from reading several reviews online, and maybe watching some youtube. But also keep in mind I personally wouldn't buy a wheel for a single game. So if you have a few other games you like, maybe see what people think about wheels in those too.
But if you aren't overly picky, I don't see why the G29 would be a bad choice. It's got good reviews overall, and logitech is one of the most supported wheel brands.
EDIT: If you specifically want to see how people feel about the G29 and horizon 5, you can find videos specifically for that, if you want.
What you need to know is this, if you plan on using a wheel with this game:
1) Are you looking for immersion, or RP'ing driving cars? If yes, the use a wheel. The game has full wheel support. It supports and simulates clutch very well, supports h-shifter, paddles and it will give you a decent feel of understeer, oversteer, weight transfer, etc. Is it as good as a full blown simulator like AC, PCars or BeamNg? No. It is not. Is it bad? It's not terrible. It does it's job.
2) You don't care about the driving experience or any mentioned above? Want to be competitive and post the fastest lap times? Are you used to driving with a controller and don't have the time to get used to a wheel? Then use a controller.
If you want to commit to a wheel, know that it takes time to get used to. A lot of time. Having to set up your wheel is cumbersome and time consuming as well. There is also a chance that you might run into issue getting the wheel to run, depending on what version of the game you have.
If you do commit, it is very rewarding though, depending on the experience you seek. Controlling an oversteer/drift, being able to shift with your left or right hand, properly double-clutching, heel-toe'ing without thinking all takes time to learn, but it is very satisfying when you build the muscle memory to do so.
Just that I am now currently on Forza. But I don't wake up saying to myself hay, I wanna race...if that makes sense.
I am more of a Witcher 3 RPG type Dark Souls fan. But once a while I really want some good racing and experience it aswell, hence I got a few other race games aswell.
Didn't know BeamNG supports wheel?
BeamNG is pretty much meant to be played with a wheel. The whole physics engine that it runs on is built around it.
And yeah, I totally get you. I mostly play that kind of game too. I just happen to love cars. I play games like Forza mostly because I want to drive these cars, listen to their engines and play pretend I'm driving around or racing them. Don't really care about the competitive side of it. Playing with a wheel helps the fantasy.
It sounds like you have a few good games to play on a wheel, if you choose to get one. So you just have to decide if you have the space!
Either way you go, good luck.
There are free roam servers, or you can set up your own instance. Very cool stuff.
So while AC started off (and still is) a serious sim, due to community support you can ignore that stuff if you want and drive in traffic and not worry about lap times, penalties or progressing in some lame career.
It's also often dirt cheap, I got it and all the DLC for 7 bucks not long ago.
The handling is fine but not full sim race (e.g., ACC), I would say it is 70~80% to the real thing in terms of the steering feel, but you do not have better alternative cruising around with a wheel in open world either if that is what you are into. You will need some tweaking because the default wheel setting is arcade-focus (see here for a sim setting https://www.briankoponen.com/forza-horizon-5-logitech-g29-g920-settings/, also recommend setting a 360 rotation degree in the G29 software), and to be competitive online you need to either be very good at car tuning, or do extensive research downloading tunes from top tuners that happen to play well on wheel. And of course takes much more practice than using a controller.
Since you have dirt rally 2 as well, and I heard it wheel support is quite good, even if FH5 does not work for you, you have other games. and yes, games like AC and automobilista 2 are now in discount in case you are suddenly interested in wheel sim racing.
良いと思いますよ
Drifting is insanely more difficult, all else is easy to do once you practice a bit. The pedal and the wheel are responsive, and gives up extra imersion in the game.
Personal opinion but i highly recommend it.
