Experiencing crashes? Let's fix that!

Hello! I am assuming you're here because your game is crashing? So I've heard. Well, a few members of this community here have found a potential workaround!

So what causes the crashes?
Well, the crashes are caused becasue the new update possibly changed the way the files are stored/accessed in your local system, aka C: drive.

What does that have to do with the game crashing?
The game relys on caching textures and certain files to work, as well as other integration. I am not too sure how it works as I am not a developer, just an IT guy willing to provide support. That being said, there is a certain anti virus software that I have just been made aware of called ESET anti virus.

How do i fix the game crashing?
A fix for this is disabling HIPS DBI within the ESET antivirus application. What HIPS DBI does is it bypasses a certain security measure built into the Windows OS by default. It detects "malware" being written to the disk, and causes issues. In short: It thinks Forza Horizon 5's way of accessing and writing files to AppData is malware being installed to your PC, therefore it wants to end that from happening. By disabling this feature, your whole PC might just run that extra bit better.

How did you figure this out?

I dont have ESET, but my game still crashes!
Have you tried clearing your cache? How about a system restart? As a last resort, you could also try reinstalling your game.
If you do have another 3rd party anti virus software, such as Norton, Avast, AVG, etc., you can try disabling those and test to see if the game works after that. If it still doesn't want to load up, make sure your system meets minimum requierments. (I think this is pointless because I am sure everyone here has a PC that meets the requirements anyways, but I am still going to say it). Hardware brand should not matter, and it seems as tho the game's file save system, once blocked, causes it to crash.

Let me know if you find anything else, or if none of these tricks help you!

(Don't forget to clear the game cache as well! That helps loads when it comes to the game responding decently.)

How to add programs to exceptions so that you can have HIPS enabled for that added peace of mind, credit to Gargy!

I had 17 hours into the game prior to the hotfix release without prior issue.

I don't remember graphic settings as I just rolled with what ever was default/autoconfigured

What hardware are you using? I see NVidia, so I am assuming GTX 10 series, or RTX 20, 30 series. It could possibly be a memory issue. I am unsure as of right now since I am running out of options to test.

One thing you could check is if the game is installed on a SATA III HDD (Hard Disk Drive) or on a SATA III SSD (Solid State Drive)
I'm not sure about the windows store version of the game, since I own it thru steam, but I can certainly help with that.
I can certainly look into some other probable causes for the game to crash.

I have installed on a SATA III SSD, im gonna try install it in the M2 SSD

No changes, still the same problem after move the application to the other drive (From D: to C:)

I think i have to wait a fix or something, only thing left to do is reinstall windows and i wont do that

To add, I have a list of anti virus software that usually cause issues with Forza titles.
List includes:
-Avast
-Avira
-Bitdefender
-Comodo Antivirus
-Emisoft Anit-Malware
-Sophos
-Trend Micro Maximum Security (this one sounds like a high risk prison lol)

As such, there are 3rd party overlays that also cause issues with the game, the biggest being Discord overlay. It's probably best to check all of these out.
List includes:
-A-Volute Sounds Tudio
-Discord (mainly the overlay. I know this one to be true)
-EVGA Precision X1's monitoring overlay
-Logitech G Hub (unsure why this would cause issues)
-MacType (Not familiar with this application, but I am willing to learn)
-MSI Afterburner/Riva Tuner Statistics Server
-Nahimic Audio
-OBS (open broadcast software, Incl. Stream Labs OBS)
-Sonic Audio
-Wallpaper Enigne (this one is big. It can cause issues on lower spec systems running Forza)
-Warsaw banking app? (Really had no idea. Can anyone confirm?)
-Xsplit broadcaster (again, the overlay is powerful.

Check to make sure those applications overlays are disabled, enable them one at a time if you have to.

Another possible fix is disabling Game Mode in Windows settings.
The way to do that varies between Windows 10 and 11, but it should be the same.

Open Settings
Locate "Gaming"
On the left hand side menu, locate "Game Mode" click on it.
Click the slider to turn it off, test your game.

If I find more, I will update. Hopefully this helps some!

You have discord correct? Try disabling the overlay in discord settings. If you need an explanation, I will be happy to provide :D
I did a test, and I experience the same problem with the overlay on, then the game works fine with the overlay turned off. It's odd that it breaks, but its not impossible.

That's a dangeropus fix, but I can see how that would work. I don't recommend it however for users who aren't comfortable with modifying paging processes. I could also be wrong as I have never had to deal with this in my line of work. I will try and get back to-

That's a dangeropus fix, but I can see how that would work. I don't recommend it however for users who aren't comfortable with modifying paging processes. I could also be wrong as I have never had to deal with this in my line of work. I will try and get back to-
