Opinion on certain cars being Meta?
I'm curious how you guys feel about this. I went into an S2 mixed surface race and of the 11 people there, 7 of them were using Hoonigan RS200's. I have mixed feelings on it, personally.

On one hand, things becoming meta is just what happens in online competitive gaming, that's just how it is and this is par for the course, the end. Oh well. Additionally, everyone in the same car does level the playing field.

On the other hand, I feel like there's hundreds of cars in the game, and if you want to have any hope of performing well in races, you -must- use those specific cars, which sort of kills user diversity. What's the point of the other eighty dozen cars if a specific few are the only ones worth using?

So yeah... mixed thoughts. What about you guys? How do you feel about it?

It's cheap and boring. The game gives you nearly 600 cars and people end up using the same five cars over and over just because they want to win. It's the classic "... no,, I'm better than you to the infinite" type of thing.

I don't play online, so I really don't care. I find it more fun to play solo. That way I can use every car and enjoy them however I like. This game was 100 dollars and I'm getting every cent back from that investment.

Let kids play with their meta cars and compete against each other if that's their idea of fun. They are free to do so. And don't let the majority dictate how you should play the game. You bought the game and it's yours to play it your way.

Yeah, that's the way I kind of feel about the meta. It has some benefits but I honestly feel like the cons outweigh it. The reason I play online is just because I feel like the AI is a tad boring. Part of it is on the AI just because you can tell they're on rails and as the difficulty rises, so does their unbelievability as they break the laws of physics. The other part of it was a mental thing where I consciously know they're AI and it kinda makes me feel lonely lol
Metas in any game is always gonna be cringe.. either be at a disadvantage by not using "OP/Meta cars" or use them.

Yeah, that's the kicker, isn't it? Seems there's no good choice, in the end. Due to FH5's nature of being a racing game, there's not really much room to go with alternate choices and still succeed like you would in say a shooter or something. As you said, the only choices are to drive the best, or be beaten by those driving the best. No option for outside of the box play, really.
i end using meta cars if want to win, except boneshaker
in horizon open we need something like horizon tour with pickups only races, cars from years 90. UK cars etc

there will be always 1-2 cars above the rest in each type of race but atleast we will have more variety
There should be no S2 dirt racing in MP to begin with. The only reason why almost everyone use Hoon RS200, is because it's the only rally car you can upgrade close to limit of S2. It's either that, or rebuilt hypercar which will certainly be harder to drive.

S2 dirt isn't a thing in horizon open since that one update that deleted my precious goliath race out of the playlist. Only the S2 CC playlist remains. I don't even join it anymore.
It's mildly infuriating. But at the same time, if you're one of those who is simply uninterested in meta, it can make for a fun tuning experience. Building and tuning your favorite car to be competitive relative to the meta is great fun.

Of course, as others have pointed out, those cars are considered meta for a reason. So you also have to be okay with losing to them quite a lot...

lots of cars are underpowered and have no chance in online

You got it mixed up. It's cross country that was removed, dirt racing is still in S2 and it's 90% Hoon RS200 vs Sesto Elemento FE
One thing to remember is that there will always be some kind of meta in a competitive online game. That's just the way it is. Gamers will always find the fastest car, the best gun or the best fighter combo. No matter what kind of game it is, this will always happen.

It's the developers job to balance the game by reining in the meta cars (not banning them) so that they are more in line with their closest competitors. I haven't seen PG do anything of the sort tbh.

Another solution would be a new playlist, Horizon Pure: Stock cars and your driving skill. No tuning or anything of the sort. No joining mid championship. Everyone gets the same rental car based on the theme of that weeks playlist. To make things fair, if you start in pole position in the first race, you start in the back in the second race etc. In the third and final race whoever has the most points starts at the back and whoever has the least points starts at the front. This is to eliminate the random grid position system we have giving some people an unfair advantage.

I personally don't use meta cars that often. I like to mix it up. I have never used the boneshaker and never will. I have no respect for anyone who uses that car tbh. People using it are desperate to win at any cost.

I wouldn't mind a bit more restriction in the online races - just like normal road racing have restrictions for different types. You wouldn't see a Bone Shaker if only 80's super cars are allowed for example.

I wish they balanced/nerfed some cars a bit, but I believe it's a thing PG isn't too fond to do. They ofc have a right to balance the cars in the game, but you also know this forum would be flooded by self proclaimed juridical experts, threatening to sue PG for nerfing their digital car that they bought.

Pretty much on point. Especially with 500 cars, balance will never happen. We need some kind of sanctioned playlist with very restricted car categories (premade or stock cars) without any player tuning. If not, the multiplayer will continue to be as it is, where 50-80% disconnect in the first few seconds as they realise they stand no chance versus some tryhard meta player

I was thinking about using playlist championship system for new Ranked mode. Mode displays surface type and vehicle requirements for a day (like playlist championship), so players can prepare acordingly. The twist is, that every day requirements change, meaning meta cars can be rarely used, and rating has more to do with all-round driving/tunning skill than using only meta cars.
They should also change rating buildup system so it requires several races to reach top tier, it was ridiculus that you could reach high ranking simply by leaving every adventure you don't dominate. Half of Grandmasters had exactly 1 race because of that exploit.
if you wanna win use meta if you want to play the game drive what you want its always fun beating people with meta cars. just bc its meta doesn't mean they know how to drive
