pro active not reactive driving practices, and easy on throttle through turns try to actually handle the car at any given time! best of luck
yes, throttle control, im quite aware of the importance. i mainly meant when tuning, what is most important to control under/oversteer. thanks.

the formula drift cars are excellent at drifting; i particularly like the RX8 (especially if you have a tendency to oversteer too much). just look at those as a reference point. just in case you haven't, make sure traction control is turned off for easier drift control. one car i've found pretty easy to drift with minimal upgrades or tuning is the E39 M5 (I think it's 2003?). I can get it to continuously drift pretty easily by just replacing the tires and the differential. too bad it doesn't have bonuses to drifting.

It also helps to see how sharp the turn is ahead and slow down accordingly to not understeer and fly off.

Get a formula drift car. They were built for drifting and will pretty much auto drift for you. A bit of throttle control and brake control is needed, but it's fairly easy when the car just wants to drift in a controllable manner like these cars do. Getting 3 stars in those drift zones is super easy with these cars even if your drifting is all whack.

gear management,
being able to start and control it without handbrake, in at least 50% of the cases,

Feather the throttle to maintain the drift or use the e-brake/clutch to kick the backend out more when you are beginning to straighten out. Also, be in a gear that has a lot of power e.g. 3rd and gear up/down if you are going to fast/slow and you are beginning to lose momentum.
