So...I have a €180 Elite controller...that keeps disconnecting....
...which is a big poo poo since The Elite 2 controller comes with fancy thingees that can serve as gears and guess what? Controller keeps disconnecting (X box dongle).
Also, why has Forza 5 the EXACT same issues Forza 4 had at launch? Still fun but...c'mon...

dont use an (dongel) use an usb c wire to connect your controller, with that you should have no any disconnects. i also use an elite series2 and dont have those isseus have you looked up for an update on the xbox controller app?

Thanks!
I certainly checked for updates. I do not like to be tied to a cable; this is why I bought a (very-expensive-prone-to-drift-and-not-last-for-more-than-a-year) wireless controller. Thank got it does not happen with XBOX one controller, which I had to buy because....

Restart your PC. I have a regular xbox one controller that had the same issue. It just dropped wireless and wouldn't reconnect, no matter what.

It has to be some sort of bug with the game or some windows update recently, this never happened to me before.

Same here with the Series X wireless controller, game says it has disconnected but it still connected, only this game I have issue with it.. the fix I found is that I need to disconnect my usb flight stick to stop this happening, just annoying bug from MS

I also use the Elite 2, wired with USB-C seems to be the way to avoid issues

xbox wireless adapter + elite 2 controller, no disconnects at all.

lol, so 1/2 the solutions to my controller keeps disconnecting is use a wire?

If it's just a bluetooth connection try your motherboards specially if you've got a pricey board, just make sure your wifi antennas are connected. Otherwise there's either usb or pcie bluetooth adapters you can buy. Otherwise if it is just a controller issue, well rma probably.

try updating the firmware with the xbox accessories app

Non here either.

Not prone to drift. The thumb stick housing is all metal. The standard is plastic, that's why they are prone to drift and Elite and 360 are not.

Firmware up to date, still getting this after the latest patch too, only Forza does it.. works flawlessly with Wreckfest or wrc10

Steam Input only focusses on 1 game. So make sure you do not run multiple things on Steam.
Things like Wallpaper Engine for example.

You can also try to unlink the controller from Steam and see if that has any effect.
Settings > Controller > General controller settings > uncheck Xbox configuration support.

I'm not having any issues with that enabled tho (and Xbox extended feature support for the paddles) with an Elite v2 connected to a MS dongle (not bluetooth)

I can't speak for the V2 of the elite controller, but sorry, the first generation was garbage.

I had FOUR. 2 of them arrived with broken-ish sticks. On one of them, one of the bumpers simply broke from too much use, because it's just plastic. For 150€+ they're an absolute joke.

I just went ahead and got a normal one now. If that thing breaks, it'll be a lot less frustrating because it costs like a third of that what an elite costs.

that's just straight up wrong. they start drifting because Microsoft uses cheap potentiometers in a 180 € controller

Probably not that much help as you've already bought the Xbox one - but the 8bitdo wireless controller has been flawless for me so far.
