Why do my graphics on high settings look kinda bad?
I'm enjoying the game, I'm able to run in it on high settings at 60fps at 1440p, however the lighting/shadows look really bad for me, when for other people it looks fine. I'm using a 144hz monitor (set to 60hz in-game) and a GTX 1080 (An old card I know). So I'm wondering if my GPU has anything to do with it? All my drivers are updated etc. Any ideas? Thanks.

Screenshots would help

Sometimes the bad visuals are common for everyone, sometimes it is something unique.

I agree, a screenshot would help.

I did try some screenshots but it was really hard to see the issues in the photo mode, as it tends to be how the reflections work whilst on the move. I'll to get some better pics tomorrow after work. Thanks.

Reflections are bad, basically. They have always been very "fake". And often stretched. So if you dislike reflections, you are not alone.

Mirrors are worse, they don't have the same resolution or render distance.

Use windows key + G to take photos, instead of f12 or whatever you have set to default for steam. Steam reduces the image quality. Same thing happens in ACC.

But yes high settings is wonky. I use to run it on high because I was playing for hours on end, then I switched to Ultra and it looks better.

I understand you have a older card, maybe reduce things like shadows, and other non required things like ray tracing. Keep environment at ultra and cars.

Pretty sure photomode cheats, in addition to whatever filter and camera effects, pretty sure it also tweaks some graphics settings as well.

Steam and generally most games will do screenshots in jpeg to save space, generally it's not bad but it is compressed so some finer details is lost. There's an option in steam settings to save an uncompressed image if you'd like, though truely uncompressed image files are huge.

As for graphics quality, the quality is questionable on high. Generally the cars themselves are mostly fine on any settings, everything else ranges from utter garbage to you probably won't notice how bad they are while you're in motion.

Your GPU is way more than enough to run the game even on EXTREME settings (in 1080p, of course). Your system is way more than enough to play the game at high+ settings. That is not the problem.

The problem about shadows, im not sure, but im afraid that problem is coming from the game engine, so nothing you can do to fix it. Shadows in the game are bad, plain and simple. Graphics are bad. Plain and simple. Lighting in this game is a joke. Plain and simple.
Many people assume they have a problem with the game, you dont. It is just the game that looks bad. Like most games of this generation.

And without any screenshots to compare your "version" with others, there is nothing anyone can do to diagnosis the problem.

And seriously, why people keep recommending turning off ray tracing? people still dont know that ray tracing IS ONLY USED ON THE FORZAVISTA AUTOSHOW??.. unbelievable. The game doesnt use ray tracing in-game.

@n3mes1s I said it because his gpu doesn't support it. Whether or not they updated software for his gpu, it still doesn't work properly is all man.

Pretty sure with NVIDIA cards don't use it till the 2000 series. It's just eating up resources. I still don't even understand how it works, because I run games with it and see no difference on or off.

I dont know what you talking about. Are you referring to ray tracing?

My GPU doesnt support ray tracing (not that i care.. lol).
And of course not. Any card below the RTX series does not support ray tracing. It means nothing. In the requirements of the game it SPECIFICALLY says ray tracing is only used on the forzaivsta autoshow. And even if you have that option activated and your gpu doesnt support it, nothing will happen.

Or you can get the info in the OFFICIAL forums, not here. Now, if you want to live in ignorance, suit yourself.

lol no ignorance here bro. Sorry you are so angry at life. There's a built in benchmark that will show you the difference between having ray tracing on and off. Who peed in your wheaties? There's a clear difference between running ray tracing on and off in the benchmark.

You know what I was talking about, because you clearly pointed it out when you posted your response. Then responded like you knew. Why ask if you knew what I was saying?

If you have the option activated and you have an RTX Nvidia card the game will likely crash in forzavista, where it is actually supposed to be doing its thing.

And yes officially it is only supported in forzavista, not that I would be surprised it would impact performance elsewhere seeing how buggy the whole package is for a lot of people.

Oh god.. i dont think you are very fast.. are you? ima going to tell you again. THE GAME DOESNT USE RAY TRACING WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING. And this is not said by me, this IS SAID BY THE DEVELOPERS. I dont know how to tell you anymore lol. I guess some of you are short, and you cant do anything about it. If you have a RTX card and ray tracing activated in-game, it could crash on the forzavista autoshow, BUT NOT IN-GAME.

And if you are talking about ray tracing generally speaking, i dont care. The whole point of the discussion was ray tracing in forza horizon 5. Period. And thats about it, dont keep answering trying to feel like an asmart ass (when you are clueless) im blocking you right away.

Dang thought we could be best pals too.

The game got dumb'd down because of the Xbox One Generation being on HDD, would have made more sense to make the settings scale
