16GB of RAM is enough for a gaming PC!
Uh no. These new big budget 2021 games actually require a bit over that now. I need at least 17GB of RAM or over to be able to run this thing on extreme. It showed me that it was taking 16.9GB/16GB. Ever since I put this on preset "ultra", it breaks my heart with how low quality the far distance scenery looks with noticable pop in now. And the only way to get rid of that is putting it on preset "extreme", but I'm like 900mb over what my 16GB RAM can only hold. I'm gonna just get my RAM upgraded on Christmas.

Nothing wrong with my GPU or CPU power. I bought a prebuilt PC that had a hell beast of a GPU and CPU for its price, it's just my RAM bottlenecking it now.

edit: Just some things to mention for clarification. The game runs its best (80-110fps on 1440p on extreme settings) at the first 2 hours until I get a message in the game where it says my memory is at 16.9/16GB. So if I start playing longer, gradually the fps takes quite a dip to its 50-60s. So what happens is that I have to reset my game for things to run well again, so its a bit annoying to do. It's definitely a memory leak issue.

No, my prebuilt PC ain't no potato. The GPU is an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT and the CPU is an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X. They're both pretty sexy. But the crap thing about prebuilt PCs at a "fair" price is that it usually comes with a limited amount of RAM which is 16GB, the usual standard and the SSDs are usually 500GB. Both of which I will be eventually upgrading. Thank god I spend most my time playing FFXIV and other games on console. (Refuse to buy an Xbox so I'm playing Forza Horizon 5 on PC).

I'm not getting defensive about anything. You are just spreading false info.
It doesn't matter how much ram you have, it won't make your game run better. The amount of ram a game needs is what makes it run good. Just because you have more, won't make the game run better. Also rarely any game setting is increasing system ram usage, more like never except for very rare occasions. So like I said, if you don't know much, don't talk about it.
Right,

Obviously I'm missing something here, so inform me. You're just saying I'm wrong, period. Which is fine, I don't mind if I'm wrong, but I'd like to know why. What do you mean by: "The amount of ram a game needs is what it run good." ? Now I get that if the game has the "good" amount of RAM it needs to have, it will run good, but what stops it from using more? RAM stands for random access memory, so wouldn't the game have more cache to play around with? Please tell me, because this is how I see it, like you said though, I could be wrong.

The amount of a ram a game needs depends on the title you are running and I can't give you a fixed amount as those infos are not available to me and simply me checking how much ram it uses won't really make much sense and I can tell you why. If more ram is available, more ram will be used. It really is that simple. Same goes for vram. If you for example would've had only 8gb ram and the game ran fine and I got 16gb of ram and my game also runs fine, we will have different amounts of ram allocated for the game. That's because more is vailable so more will be used but that doesn't translate to the game runningg better. FH5 works very well with 16gb ram. Performance won't differ when you are using 32gb ram or even 128gb ram. There is no change in performance based on the amount of ram itself. Microsoft very well said the games running even with 8gb of ram for a reason but you will probably have to live with some compromises with opening less apps so you cut your ram usage to a minimum. But it will run, maybe a little hicky. So 16gb is no problem whatsoever. So it's mind-boggling to me that people are actually saying the game itself is running over 16gb. Because developers are not saying the game will use that much on their requiremt section. They will put out requirements for system ram. So what your system itself needs is also calculated.

The game itself is having issues right now with it's mem leak and based on that people jump on the fence and speculate the wildest things not knowing what actually is going on.
16GB is more than enough when you consider its just code.

You probably had a browser open along with tons ofbloatware (new shop pc). My system never used Swap.

Gotcha, that makes sense. And you're right, I think the game has a memory leak because I saw my game go up to 18GB or something crazy like that. Thanks for the clarification :)

Yup, it does have a mem leak and this is why performance drastically gets worse over time and at a certain threshold is unplayable. Restarting the game "fixes" that. But if you are still curious, I just opened up the game, left the festival and went on the streets and right after that I took a screen. It uses 5,8gb of ram.

That will increase a little bit over time, but not that the extend we have right now, as it's a bug.
I've literally never had any issues with 16 GB of ram, and even while playing FH5 on extreme settings my system is using less than 10gb. I don't know what ya'll are doing to have such high ram usage. 😂
I am running the game maxed out and not having any problems. You probably have some hidden crypto miners running on your computer in the background from installing pirated software or have a virus

Don't confuse the total system usage with how much the game is actually using. Go into task manager and take a look at how much memory the program is, I'd be surprised if it hits 6GB. Most games barely go to 3.5.
Close your other programs, especially browsers, to free up memory.

Or just upgrade. 16GB is pretty dated, 32 is normal now,

Using memory that is free isn't an issue. It's when you run out of memory are start using the page file that you hit performance issues.

Ofc using it while it's free isn't an issue. I'm just pointing out that it's happening, that's all so people get the idea that allocated ram is not necessarily the amount the game needs in order to run. But this game has a mem leak issue as it's increasing ram usage for as long as you play. It's a bug and must be fixed as it results in horrible stuttering and lags. Why did you think I was implying it might be an issue if I may ask? I never even said something like that.

So are you getting page faults, or are you just using memory? Is it exceeding your total RAM?

May I ask if you even know what a mem leak is?

I personally have 32GB and experienced the game go over 16GB. For high end gaming PCs, 32GB is becoming the new sweet spot, and I presume in the next few years we will start to see next gen graphics needing more RAM. If you plan on going to extreme graphics with a resolution better than 1080p, this might be the issue.
No, it is not. Windows is, but also if more ram is available, more ram will be used. Same goes for vram. Gaming alone does not need more than 16gb, not even close. If you guys have no idea how ram allocation works, don't talk about it. Simple as that.

People can talk about anything they want. Simple as that.

Arrogance and condescension aren't a good look. Simple as that.
lol I tried playing this on an HP laptop it said unsupported graphics card lol now I have to wait on my new setup to arrive
Install and learn the app called Winaero tune. Remove any programs you don't use. Check start up apps and disable everything you don't use when the PC starts up. Also set the texture quality to extreme to get rid of the Ultra bug creates. Ultra setting is glitched out and is basically the very low setting. This game shouldnt be using so much ram for you. It does not for me. Check the official known issues thread and disable any apps that conflict with this game. Like Discord, logitech, antivirus stuff, etc
I had a discussion with a friend few days ago.
His point was that if you buy an expensive gaming pc always go for 64gb ram.
I tried to convince him that 32 should be enough.
But with 16 you can get into trouble nowadays.
And for the future it is not enough
