create steel bars

I try to upgrade my fine axe, but I need steel bars for it. I have coal and iron, but my furnace does not have the recipe for it. Do I have to find something or what is the clue?

without steel bars I can not upgrade ace and that means I can not get spiritwood for the broom...

can somebody help me?

Keep mining Iron, it will unlock it.

If you go into the compendium for iron ore, click on the arrows to move tabs until it shows a list of tasks to complete for iron: gathering, using in crafting, etc. Each checkbox will give you 1 star. On the right, you can see what each star unlocks. Steel bars should be at 1 or 2 stars of iron ore.

Just keep mining Copper and ORE it will appear soon. That is how I got mine to show in the FURNACE. Even though in the beginning your AXE does mine copper and ore takes more health to mine. After that then get a new axe If you can to mine the next ore. You also have to MINE CRYSTALS and make stuff to build Green Houses. That is when you dig the stupid round circles all over the place. You get crystals from them and sometimes the other ore you mine.

I don't understand this - you're talking about the axe mines copper & ore? You use a pick axe on ores...is that what you meant?

to get the steel bars recipe just mine as much iron as you can until you get it. Like ExOps said, use your compendium to see what rewards unlock at which level.
