How to make bronze bars?

I know this might be a silly question because I am missing something but how do I make bronze bars to upgrade the Axe? Also what is a essence extractor and how does it work (is there a guide somewhere that I can read because this game lacks direction or information on how to play)

Bronze bars can be crafted at the crafting station once you've mined enough Bronze ore. You'll get a little pop-up on screen telling you that you've learned it or something.

I just crafted the essence extractor a few minutes ago and so far I've tried extracting each of the different weeds that keep popping up in my garden. I received Earth, Dust, and Water essences from those so far. I guess you just have to try different things.

My problem with this is I can't seem to find the coal or soft wood necessary to make the iron or bronze bars.

Coal, if I remember correctly, comes occasional from stones that you mine. There is a batch of soft wood near the pond up north.

Bronze bars are made by first mining enough copper ore to unlock the recipe. Copper is found at the back of your garden. There's a small mining spot. Then you must chop enough soft wood (there's lumber camps or sites in the game. Soft wood is found near a pond). Then you need to have made the furnace - get the recipe from Rogost. Then you can make bronze bars.
