Soft Wood

I cannot locate where I can get soft wood to make bronze. I know I need the fine wood axe to cut certain stumps to get soft wood. But I can't make the fine wood axe without 25 soft wood... I can't buy it from the shops either. Am I just missing something?

So to get bronze you need soft wood, and to get soft wood you need a fine axe, and to get a fine axe you need bronze?

No need to do that. You can create the bars at the crafting table.

You should see it pop up on the summary screen after you mine copper and get some copper nuggets. Then the recipe should be on the workbench.
Bronze from copper and wood is certainly different...

Exactly! You can check everything in compendium (you open it with "K" button). After you choose ore, change form "about" page to "discovery". You can see there informations how to unlock new stages of discovery and how to unlock bar recipe.

i am a slow player, so far i farmed too late in second season where apparently nearly nothing grows, i didn't have any soft wood until the third season & i didn't mine copper at all, cause had to rebuy the pickaxe after i lost nearly everything from my invetory after i dropped it & reloaded the game. i am now mainly just exploring the landscape, which i really adore. the world building in this game is absolutely beautiful !

so, i'm going today to mine & get to those watermelon seeds & the feathers

also approximately 2/3 of the map still needs exploring

yeah, i realised that now as well

to upgrade the axe i need 5 bronze bars
one bronze bar needs 5 Soft Wood
i have gathered only 5 from that one tiny stump on the farm
on the chopping sites i found so far is only one stump each & it's the big one, which means only an upgraded axe is able to chop it

well, maybe there are other chopping sites somewhere, at least i found finally the navigation which enables me to set markers on the map, at least some progress

yeah, i realised that now as well

There is a logging camp with multiple soft wood stumps beside the small lake between the Sacred Grove and the beach.
I have uploaded screenshots of the site, and of the map with the location marked.
I got 5 soft wood logs from just the first stump, using the primitive axe.

Does anyone know where to get the next level of wood after soft wood? It is the wood required to build the new larger chests (is that fine wood?)

Hard wood. You can get it from two of the woodcutting spots in the forest. The big dark logs give it. They need five hits from a fine Axe, though, so you may have to invest quite an amount of stamina. Haven't found an easier way yet.

So I did all of this and it shows that I have it on the recipes but it's not showing up on the work bench and the picture that it says it's crafted in is different than the work bench?

Bronze bar is made at the Furnace. They used to be made at the workbench.
I suggest looking at the wiki, really, it has been updated, and many of the questions asked are answered there =D
