Soft Wood

I cannot locate where I can get soft wood to make bronze. I know I need the fine wood axe to cut certain stumps to get soft wood. But I can't make the fine wood axe without 25 soft wood... I can't buy it from the shops either. Am I just missing something?

You can find soft wood on the farm, and in logging. Usually soft wood is lighter than other tree trunks :)

What is the drop rate? Cause I've been chopping the stumps and fallen logs on my farm and have only gotten wood. Any piece of random branches or chopping wood pieces on the ground has been just "wood".

Normal stumps don't give soft wood. Look for the stumps that are a little more red then normal. I had 1 stump like that in my farm, so I had to search the logging camps for more.

Yeah, the one on my farm was too big to break. I finally found some smaller ones near a pond! C:

i can't find soft wood as well. if i want to chop the red stumps or logs or whatever, it says the tool is not good enough. so how is that soft wood if the normal axe is not good enough ?

I don't know if this will help anyone but I found a really small stump at the very back end of my farm plot and the top of it was that red/orange color. I haven't been able to destroy the stump but it has yielded around 8 pieces of soft wood so far. I'm only using my starter axe on it. I haven't figured out how/where to smelt ore yet.

now i get it ! i managed finally to get some Soft Wood.
but
the game tells me something misleading. the info that the tool is not very effective is more confusing than helpful. the first axe might be not very effective but it is still effective enough to get the Soft Wood out of those stumps/logs. i did understand that info as i shouldn't do it cause i don't get anything out of that stump & should get a better axe first before i attempt it further.
i fairly don't understand what that info is about AT ALL since i am fully capable to get Soft Wood with that axe. mission accomplished.

If "tool is not very effective" shows up, it will take much longer to destroy wood/rocks. If it says "tool is completely ineffective", it means that you are not able to destroy it with that tool.

yeah, might be, but i have only that one axe & no option to upgrade it. so that info is totally useless & at best confusing, as it was to me. an info should inform not add chatter which i am unable to act upon.

& btw. if i explore i will stumble upon the option to upgrade the axe & i assume most players are intelligent enough to realise an upgrade means their upgraded axe will be more effective than the first one.
so yeah, totally useless info but highly effective regarding confusion.

For now there is a way to upgrade your axe and pickaxe once. More upgrades will be added in the future.

regarding that "completely ineffective" info i would rather suggest to make it clearer & just don't allow the player to even hit it accompanied with the info. maybe a sound of bouncing back or a muffled or hollow sound, some games make it that way, adds better info than text.

regarding the "not very effective" info & the nudging towards the upgrade, just drop it. it's too complicated & doesn't add any meaningful gameplay value. as i wrote, the beginner player with that axe will find out soon enough the upgrade & will realise without any additional info an upgrade is doable & effective.

Though there is a plot next to the small pond in the north where you can find lots of small red stumps that can be harvested easily.

No need to do that. You can create the bars at the crafting table.
