What should I do if my multiplayer doesn't work?
I want to go to a friend, there is an endless download and then it drops into a single
I tried to update Windows
I was updating the drivers on the video card
I made an exception for the antivirus
but nothing helped

What do you mean when you say there's an endless download?
GHOST Sep 16, 2024 @ 1:51am
That is, it goes on for a very long time and then resets

Finish the campaign first

Try validating your game files on steam.

Both of you two could try playing with other people and\or using different PCs to see who's to blame. I think it might be something to do with your internet\router settings, but it might actually be anything, because obviously it's something out of ordinary.

And I don't work online with other players.

Just google that, there's probably a solution already, I remember I had a similar issue with COD many years ago

I've tried everything that was written there

Getting Started :
You join or invite the other player while in separate hangars. Preferably whoever has the faster internet with Ethernet Cable connected and better performing system or device should host. That person sends the invite. Or the other person selects Join Game in steam friends list. Then, once in the same hangar, you go from there to gather supplies and select a mission.

Mission Unlocked :
Make sure you are both playing missions you have unlocked. Some missions require you to talk to certain NPC's before they unlock. Usually with a green icon and a exclamation mark. If one of you is further along than the other, play catch up till your friend is where you are.

If you attempt to play a mission you both don't have unlocked, the one that doesn't have it unlocked is immediately sent back to the hangar while the other player continues on that mission with a bot in the players' place.

Matching Settings :
When trying to play with a friend and you are unable to successfully join their hangar or mission, try to match up these settings :

- Crossplay : Enabled / Disabled
Crossplay is enabled by default but it can be enabled or disabled.

Menu > Settings > Crossplay

- Matchmaking : Public / Private
Just make sure matchmaking is set to Public for multiplayer. Private for single player. You can also invite friends while in Private mode.

Click On Any Mission > Matchmaking

- Challenge Cards : Enabled / Disabled

Click On Any Mission > Challenge Cards

Firewall & Antivirus :
Check firewall settings to make sure the game is allowed. Both basic and advanced firewall settings.

A lot of antivirus not only block applications and processes but also controls incoming and outgoing connections. You can exclude the game or game folder in the settings.

Crossplay :
Most players play with it Enabled. Steam has a average playerbase that fluctuates during peek hours. The game has crossplay between 6 different platforms. PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Nintendo Switch.

Crossplay is enabled by default but it can be enabled or disabled.

Menu > Settings > Crossplay

Add A Friend To Your Crossplay Friends List :

Continue Game > Menu > Teams > Crossplay > Add Crossplay Friends

Either :

- Generate An Invite Code : I want to generate an Invite Code to give a friend.

- Enter Invite Code : I have an Invite Code, and want to send a Friend Request.

Your friend has now been added to your Crossplay Friends List located in :

Menu > Teams > Crossplay

Send A Game Invite :

While you are both in-game, in separate hangars, whoever is deciding to host selects the friend's name in the Team Tab to send an invite.

Menu > Teams > Crossplay > Select Friend's Name

Finding Players :
Enable Crossplay :

Menu > Settings > Crossplay

Enable Challenge Cards : Most players play with it Enabled.

Click On Any Mission > Challenge Cards

Difficulty : Try different difficulties. The majority play on intense, extreme and insane.

Click On Any Mission or Quickplay > Difficulty

Matchmaking Fix : If you ever get removed from a group, disconnected from the host player or sit in the hangar for too long, the matchmaking can get messed up and make it feel like no one is playing. And when you do connect with someone, it seems like there are bad connections from there on out.

To Fix This :

Exit To Title Screen > Continue Game > Relaunch Mission or Quickplay

Quickplay : Is a feature that unlocks after completing the base game. It allows players to find a team instantly. You are able to select the difficulty but the missions are random.

Extra :
You both have to own the DLC in order to play Pathogen missions.

If you are playing on different devices, both enable crossplay.

You are welcome to join the AFECM. There are other Groups.

I'm leaving this comment in case some new players of the game get bumped by this.

I was getting the infinite load screen and could not join my friends on p2p games. After a lot of frustration and checking logs and research I noticed my pc clock was not correct (was two hours behind of what it should be) and I know direct connection apps and games require clocks to be synced (or close) so I updated the PC clock and the p2p problem stopped.

For anyone experiencing this, check you date and time settings and make sure they are correct.
This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
