single player and what version to purchase
Thanks in advance for anyone kind enough to respond ;)
I don't always have a distraction free environment which limits me to solo play but would anyone recommend a purchase based on single player?

I know with other games if you don't get the dlc you miss out on top gear in most cases. finances are a bit limited at this time but was considering the hive edition. should i just wait till ultimate edition goes low or wait till my funds enable me to go with ultimate?

You should just get Into the Hive, but I'd suggest a deep sale. It's on sale all the time, so just try to wait for one of those.

Edit Head to Humble. It's over 60 percent off there for both the main game and the Pathogen expansion.

You don't need DLC, the only DLC is the extra three maps of the game, but you don't need it at all. You can play this game as vanilla. You don't have to play with other players, disable multi games and you can play with two robots all the cards of the game as you want. Suffers to play very hard levels nicely.

The pathogen expansions is actually important and it is more than 3 missions. It comes with a bunch of essentials.

Pathogen DLC adds on to base game story with new missions, Intel, enemies, boss and achievements. The perks for each class is a must have enhancement to the team's arsenal. Along with the weapons and attachments. The other stuff is a plus.

INCLUDED IN THIS EXPANSION
The all new Pathogen campaign, complete with 3 new missions
8 New Weapons, 2 for each weapon type
1 New Perk for each Class Kit
13 New Weapon Attachments
2 New Outfits (for all 7 Class Kits)
6 Head Accessories
21 New Weapon Colors
10 Decals
10 New Emotes

Do keep in mind, you have to beat the Pathogen DLC in order to unlock some perks and weapons. A lot of people just unlock it on an easier difficulty just to get them. I think it has to be done on standard or intense and above.

It's fun for both multiplayer and single player. When playing single player you get two synthetic bots who join your team. In the past, the bots were not playable beyond intense difficulty. Now they have been upgraded to fight along with you on extreme and insane.

However, the bots right now do friendly fire since the previous update. So if you get shot, it's probably best to strafe to the side a bit. Not really a game changer, but it can be annoying. I'm kinda hoping it goes back to no friendly fire in the next QoL update.

The only downside about playing multiplayer is most players are in a rush. Kill and move onto another location. Even when story dialogue is playing, they rush ahead and it skips that dialogue and moves onto another. Like reading a book or watching a movie and someone skips you to the next chapter.

Single player is good for wanting to explore, hear full dialogue and take in the game scenery. Good for first time players and fans of the franchise. Once you have played the single player experience, multiplayer becomes the next step.

Crossplay between 6 different platforms. PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Nintendo Switch. So add that to the steam player average.

I'm the type of person who only enjoys playing solo in games. This game kinda opens you up to meeting new people. There's the official discord, groups and players in the discussion who don't mind helping out.

I have the pathogen DLC, I've done it to the extreme, I haven't bothered to play anymore because there are more boring maps. I didn't think it was worth the money, the extras I got there, I haven't even noticed them. No need to buy this DLC.

Did you think the game was worth playing vanilla?
Xero Feb 4, 2024 @ 3:05pm
I think you're missing the point. To you, it's just a few extra boring missions, but for fans of the game and franchise, it's a great action packed addition to the base game story.

Spoiler :
In the base game, you are left with the alien movie feel of trying to escape from the queen. Not able to fight. The DLC gives you the chance to fight a queen.

With everything the DLC has to offer, I'm sure you have a DLC item or two equipped in one of your classes and not even know you're using it. You would have to start off with no DLC to appreciate it. I got the Ultimate Edition, so the same happened with me.

When asked, I didn't know what DLC came with what because I had them all. The perks can level up your class, giving you a fighting chance or the upper hand against difficult enemies. With the weapons and attachments.

This is a huge list of upgrades and additions to say you didn't notice them or that you don't even know whether you're using them in a class.

I think you would notice the DLC if it was uninstalled. Like "Oh snap, half my stuff is missing."

Yeah, but, have to say, the final mission before Pathogen was a good finish. Always nice to have more missions. Wish they weren't so expensive, but whatever.
