Check your Firewall settings and make sure Aliens: Fireteam Elite is allowed there.
ANTIVIRUS :
Many Antivirus Real Time Protection blocks programs and connections from going in and out. Try excluding Aliens: Fireteam Elite in your Antivirus Settings.
FRIEND INVITE :
You send the invite while you are both in separate hangars. Not while on a mission. One invites while the other accepts. Then you are connected in the same hangar. From here you gather supplies and decide what mission to play.
HOSTING / INVITE :
You also may want to try switching up who is hosting. Whoever has the better running system and network should be the one to host the missions or send the invite. Being a Peer-To-Peer connection and all.
MISSION COMPATIBILITY :
Make sure you're both playing a mission you both have unlocked. If you are further than your friend, you have to play where your friend is at to catch up to where you are.
DLC COMPATIBILITY :
If this is a DLC issue, you both have to own the DLC to play together in DLC missions.
MATCHING SETTINGS :
Make sure you and your friend have matching game settings. Crossplay on/off. Matchmaking public/private, Challenge Cards enabled/disabled.
