But text chat is a must! There is nothing to communitcate, thats a no go for a coop game.
To answer your question: No. You cannot communicate with your team via either voice chat OR text. Dark Souls has better communication tools between players - that's how bad it is.
And if you intend to play with friends...use discord, or even the old teamspeak if anyone still uses this.
As far as my expericen goes... it is very rare that anyone reads a text chat in a horde shooter.
But this is just my experience and opinion, yours may be another.
