realistic interaction with cover and supported shooting positions
Hello developers!
Hello AmperCamper!

I played through the game in its current stage and there is very much I like about it.
I especially enjoy the rather realistic approach to the real world military setting and how it is conveyed with the storytelling elements. Congratulations to your achievements!

When it comes to the gameplay itself however, I have the impression that it only covers the most essential basics of movement and interaction with the world for a tactical ego-shooter game.

As a soldier and marksman myself I have a certain level of training with my rifle and one very important element of shooting at medium ranges and beyond is a stable platform, while also being behind cover in the best way possible whenever not moving.

Applying these principles is unfortunately not possible in 6DIF in its current stage, since it does not feature the ability to dynamically change the players height or leaning in small increments in order to look and aim through small gaps and to shoot rifles from a supported position such as placed upon a wall or windowsill or pushed sideways against a vertical column. Currently the players weapons are sticking into and clipping through objects without any collision or interaction, which is very detrimental to the immersion.

While there is a system for small incremental player positioning implemented in ARMA 3 for example, I would also say that it is a bit tedious and cumbersome for this application here. A better example would be the system used in Ready or Not.

For the rifle support I can think of Squad, which uses a button-push to fix your gun to the next solid object beneath, but I would personally prefer a simple, fluid and intuitive button-hold solution to let the player make use of any nearby support available.

I understand that a large part of the game is "closest" quarter firefight with point shooting and fast paced room clearing action, however I experienced also many situations with exchange of gunfire across multiple blocks with a need for accurately placed shots from cover. And this is exactly where I felt the lack of said functionalities and why I would like to bring this topic to your attention.

Thanks in advance for your replies and all the best for the further development,
Best regards from Austria,
Hansi

Thanks for the detailed suggestions. Stances from other titles have been suggested, as well as being able to mount weaponry.

A question: how important is this for the m16? I've seen most comments here referencing this for the SAW.

Typically we would move furniture (desks, tables and chairs) deep into the pockets of rooms so we have a stable source to fire from. From there we would look for targets on the streets and into the windows of homes that has muzzle flashes coming from them.

Don’t forget that you can crouch. This is very significant given that much of the cover is waist-high.
