Just turn it off in gameplay settings. I agree it’s hideous and intrusive.
Just started playing again. My only issue, it's so visually unappealing at the moment, it could literally push away a new player looking for the sim experience. And it just makes the game instantly seem more arcadey. I know I personally would've been severely put off it was in the game when i started playing, and I would've assumed there were other arcade aspects behind the gunplay/game. I agree with the guy above whom said it may be better if it's off by default. Someone who buys the game and wants a visual crosshair would be more likely to look for an option to turn one on imo.
It's the same, just two clics
