disarming IEDs?
Any chance we can get a video trainer on how to spot them, and how to disarm them? Op Virginias really getting to be a pain in the .... replayingwise. And tbh I cannot tell what is what with all the garbage in the streets. Thx.

There’s currently no way to disarm the IED. It’s currently just “walk up to it and mark it with spray paint, and hope you killed the spotter”.

Really wish we had the ability to “ping” it then just tell the Abrams to shoot it with the 50.

I've not figured out the spray paint yet, but I'm beginning to learn that there's a spotter associated with an IED and you have to take them out first.
I have to admit that some instructions would be good ;-)

If they have coded for command initiate IEDs then yes theres a spoter, somebody to trigger the device, without a trigger the IED is inert. They may code some IEDs to use PiR (Passive Infra Red in which case the PiR sensor is the trigger. Or they may use pressure pads or a trip wire, all of the above were used in Iraq.

Players want "realism". Doesn't get more real than that.
The difference here being, when you mess up and get killed you get to laugh and scream at your monitor. Then you start over and try again. You get to fail and learn from the mistakes.

I was able to get close to an IED, and Chalk Mark its location. Identified by its oh so kiddie consolelike ICON. hehhhehhe Basicly my buds and I are just stumbling along trying to figure out the mechanics of the game. Aaaah well. What are ya gonna do.... right?

Jumping in to share some context around OV:

Insurgents can become “Spotters” when they have line-of-sight to players who are within a certain range of a roadside IED. After pulling out binoculars to identify the target, these insurgents will then pull out their detonation triggers. Players cannot disarm roadside IEDs themselves, but they can mark them and eliminate the threat posed by Spotter insurgents.

Can an IED be destroyed by grenades or WPN fire?

No, player interaction goes as far as marking.

I like watching my buddies get blown to smithereens while spraying that stupid yellow can. It'll be a cold day in hell when I spray can an IED. I'll toss a C4, or an old satchel charge on it from a distance and run for the hills, but that's as close as I'll ever get.

NOT only that, but the mission is dumb as hell. NO WAY would I allow the enemy to FORCE ME down a road like that. It's a KILL BOX waiting to happen. So the tank TC saw an obstacle and thought, "oh, I'll just make a left here and it'll be ok", never considering it could be a kill box. No one is that dumb!!! That little obstacle in game would NOT stop an M1 tank.

Would they not be 'blowup-able' in real life? The mess the tank makes of the VBIED seems around the same level as the roadside IEDs, or was the SOP to mark them up and leave them as a very real danger?

Couldn't that "little obstacle" also hold an IED? I agree the IEDs in the mission are dumb, but I don't think the concept of the mission itself is.

That's possible. It "could" hold an IED under the clutter, but it's more likely that they are trying to "steer" you to where the IEDs already is.
I'd risk the "obstacle" containing an IED before I'll allow our team to be FORCED down a path of certain ambush. A KILL ZONE is to be avoided at all costs. They've made the entire alleyway to the left a "fatal funnel". No way, I'd take that path. NEVER do what the enemy hopes/expects you to do. You make their job easier, and that's a NO GO!

Eh, I still think it's an interesting mission idea. Only thing that needs to be changed is how the IEDs work.

Ping needs to direct fire from the Abram’s main gun. That really the only way this forced mission route works in relation to reality
